If you have drum brakes on the rears, you probably let the adjustment on the brake shoes go too far. This causes the hand brake handle to go too far past its stops. The cables should be able to be adjusted loose just under the hand brake boot. Then adjust your rear brake shoes. hope that helps.

My MR2 had a similar problem. The boots at the ends of the emergency brake cable wore out and let water and muck into the cable housing causing it to bind up. More than likely it's either the cable or the linkage inside the rear brakes that is causing your problem. If you have a repair manual, you can look at the routing of the cable(s) and see where the bind might be. If you can release it from under the car, you can drive it to the shop. Otherwise, I wouldn't try and drive it with the e-brake on...you'll burn up your pads and rotors.

That happened to me a few years ago. I was able to release it by crawling under the car and whacking the brake drums with a rubber mallet. Then, I drove forward and back just a few inches (as much as I could) several times and the brake eventually released.
I never was able to identify the cause because I brought the car in to a mechanic right after it happened and they found nothing wrong with it.

oh... that sucks.... it happend to me on my old pontiac lemans. My dad had to jack up the car, remove the tire and release the brake manually. I'm not sure how though... you should probably call your mechanic.
