the bakery section of any grocery store will do. you can buy a loaf of french bread or challah. the crustier the bread is, the better it will be in french toast, because the original "french toast bread" was just old, crusty french bread, dipped in milk and egg to soften it. you can get adventurous, and try a cinnamon or raisin bread, and it's especially good if you add vanilla and cinnamon to the egg mixture. also, if you slice it at an angle, it is easier to handle and eat! hope this helped

I may be going out on a limb here, but I think it's in the same place you would buy other bread. I think they're called "bakeries."
If you want pre-sliced bread, instead of actually going to the trouble to buy French bread and slice it thick yourself, then Texas Toast is what you're looking for.

For me, I always use stale bread & trim the crust. The dryness of the bread will cause a better saturation of your liquid ingedients. Of course the temp of your pan will determine on softness or crispness as ypou cook. Now - do you do sweet or savory french toast? It will ake the diff. Also add a bit of milk & water to the egg to be beaten. Savory may include a little chili paprika or other spices for fun. Have fun with your Toast - I do.

I agree with the Texas Toast. You can find at just about any grocery store. I also find it at the Sunbeam bread thrift store. Just let it get stale first or let it sit out the night before.
