and im wondering what to think or how to feel? my psych feels that i dont have any mental health probs but i have personality disorder probs instead, meaning he said treatment will come in the form of therapy not any medication. he told me he doesnt think any medication will help me and they are addictive....i explained to him about my long term anger, extreme panic and anxiety when i go out, my inner anger.. my paranoid feelings about people.. my racing thoughts, and he feels that this is all psychological not anything to do with my brain, my fears were if this were the case that if i didnt have a mental illness, i wouldnt be elligable for treatment or therapy, but he told me that this is not the case..all the symptoms ive described ive had for 15 years and ive had alot of trauma to but he says this is because of a personality disorder. to me personality disorder is seen as negative and has alot of contraversy it cant be treated, is todays events negative or positive for me?

Get a second opinion if you are not satisfied with this psychiatrist!

This is a fantastic event for you. He has told you that what you suffer from, is totally curable. He is telling you that it is not a chemical imbalance, that it is NOT a mental illness..that it is a result from your invironment, and I say he is a pretty sharp guy to recognize this and not try to dope you up with meds...can you imagine? What freedom he has just given you...The personality disorder, is a result of all the truama you have suffered, not a mental illness...rather, from mental abuse, inflicted on an innocent by others...With His intellegent help, I know you are going to be fantastic...This is a miracle for you, as help is on the horizon and new and better days are ahead...with therapy, you are going to be fine...you should be celebrating...many people have personality disorders, if that is the case,..we all can't be Mother Teresa...and a word of Advice...if you make a true friend, keep them close and they will be there for you...this is a great day

If it is the right diagnosis then it can only be good, this means you will be set on a path that will help you better deal with your problems. I can't believe anyone wants to take potentially addictive drugs with posisble bad side effects if there are other therapies out there. I feel for your pain and wish you every strength to put your life back together again.
There are no physcial tests to identify brain chemistry imbalance, psychiatry is not an exact science like chemistry or physics. You need to make sure you have a doctor you have confidence in and follow through as best you can.

Another respondent is correct that when we're in crisis, we're not objective. Still, doctors have differing opinions; they don't always agree, and they're not always right. Have you had a relationship with this doctor for a while, and do you trust him? If you're uncomfortable with him, or if you've just met and aren't sure he understands your concerns, I think it's reasonable to seek a second opinion. You need to feel that you are being heard so that you can trust your doctor's recommendation.

I am personally surprised that there's no option for a low-dose med to alleviate some of the symptoms you describe, since it sounds like they cause you significant distress. That's just my personal opinion, however. Good luck.

Some hard advise , take it or leave it. The choice is.
You can be helped but only if your willing to be helped. start by looking into yourself and list all the things you are afraid of then ask yourself why. Does it really physically hurt my body. ?? Then ask yourself why do I feel like this?? Then go to a mirror and ask yourself , Why do I hate me ? Now when you start to believe your a worth more than this , start doing something about it. What you may ask? Start by changing the way you think. Think positively about all the good things in your life. Don't let others try to run your life for you. Only you can do that. So do it. You don't need medicine. It only masks a problem, never solves it and if this is what you want for your life I'm so sorry for you.
The hard truth, get over it!!!! Life is to short to allow all these things to get in your way and all you have to do is realize this and start living, before your life is over or completely wasted on getting nowhere. If you don't take a step, you'll never go anywhere. Your choice. Live or continue to pity yourself and the problems your carry. You create your own destiny. Where your headed now is disasterious. Only you can change these problems and stop trying to seek help for something you created in your mind. I am sorry to be so blunt but if you just try maybe I have helped you some how. So get busy do something for yourself and hurry life really is passing you by.....

Seek a second opinion. Immediately.

Personality disorders are difficult if not impossible to treat. But it's not hopeless - you're on the right track to finding out what is going on. Get another opinion from another doctor. If he/she says the same thing, read up on the web about personality disorders.

Look at life positively...Don't let anger saturate deeper into your heart.Have an outlet for it but see to you don't hurt people.. Its your thoughts that made you paranoid. Can you not sleep? I have a friend who had this personality disorder before. She kept negative thoughts about anything until she cant sleep... She was given medicine to stabilize her thoughts and given sedative to sleep. When she talked to me I always listen to her...Why don't you talked out to sentiments deep inside you to people whom you think would listen to you...This ordinary people need not to tell you what to do,, but by mere listening to you, your burden thoughts, your tired emotions , your brain that s always awake would be lighter, maybe not totally but lessens.... Yet medically to go another pshycologist or go direct to the physician who deals with mental health.I hope for your peace of mind.

I hate to tell you, but you really need to listen to the doctor and be willing and open to his/her treatment plan. If you were the best judge of what you needed, you wouldn't have paranoia, anger, anxiety, etc. When a person is in a mental health crisis, they cannot see what is going on with themselves. It's true. Please try what the doctor has planned and remain willing to get better. That's another problem--you have to want to get better. Don't second guess they doctor. He/she can really help you if you let them and take part in it.

If you do not feel comfortable with this doctor you have a right to seek another opinion. I would do that if I were you. Personality Disorders are hard to treat but I've never heard of a doctor refusing to give medication because of them. Ever.

You could look at it both ways. It could be both good and bad. Good because you wouldn't have to take meds and your psychiatrist dosen't think you have any mental health problems. To be honest with you by everything you have said I disagree. Sounds like to me that you do have some sort of mental problem. Hope that didn't sound mean. I think that you need to get a second opinion. Hope I was able to help. Good luck.
