EFT would almost certainly help - it's brilliant for people who suffer from all kinds of phobeas and panic attacks. Find out more about it from www.emofree.com - you can order the DVDs and learn to do it yourself from home (it's very cheap), or see if you can find a practitioner in your area who can visit you. Good luck!

You're going to need some help from somewhere. Doctors aren't much use with agoraphobia - you can't cure it with a pill or by cutting it off. See if you can find a counsellor who does home visits.

Panic attacks are caused by an adrenaline rush. The same thing that causes great pleasure to bungee jumpers and mountaineers causes misery to thousands. Don't worry - you are not alone.

Relaxation therapy can help control adrenaline. You can't get a panic attack if you stay fully relaxed. This is often the route to escape agoraphobia, but you have to take it in small steps. A few sessions with a counsellor should point you in the right direction.

I agree that antidepressants are completely the wrong thing for agoraphobia. They used to prescribe tranquillisers, but these cause another set of problems.

It all comes down to will power.

Tell yourself that you will take 2 steps into the garden, then the next day take 4 then the next take 6 etc etc. then set yourself a goal to walk to your corner shop and back, just step yourself a further goal each day and push yourself to do it.

Don't expect too much of yourself straight away, you still have to work through why you have a fear of going outside.

Anti depressants, in my honest opinion, are useless for panic attacks and agoraphobia, you need to build up your confidence again, you are not worthless or useless, these things happen so don't put yourself down.

Get a close friend to help you out you need support through this, when you are taking your first 2 steps outside have them by your side to encourage you. If you don't feel that you have that kind of support you could always try hypnosis.

Agoraphobia will not go away in 1 month, you need to be patient it takes time so don't feel you need to rush things...take your time.

First of all you don't want to overdose I should know I've done it 8 times. THere is nothing on this earth worth killing yourself over. I know your going through alot right now,and you think that death might be the only answer but it's not. Your doctor may not make home visits but there are government agencys out there like the one that I go to that will come to your home. I didn't want to take antidepressants at first either but things just kept on getting worse and worse that eventually you may have to start taking them. Believe me they do work. In 6 Months hopefully yoou will look back on this on say wow I was going through alot then but I made it through it, because you can and I hope you will. Good Luck and God Bless.

Don't worry, I am sure she found a home by now or maybe is in the shelter. What your father said is animal neglect. You cannot just toss your pet outside and think they can provide all of a sudden for themselves. Also pigeons and other "wild" animals do carry diseases which can put your pet seriously at risk, so not the best food. I think maybe your family is not ready to take on the responsibility of a pet and feels inconvenienced by it. Wait till you are grown and have your own place, when you can provide a good home for your pet and take care of it as you are supposed to. I am sorry this had to happen to you and I know you just acted on "advice" of a grown-up.

do you know ive had this before where ive not left the house for a week or 2 weeks when ive been out of work

and to be honest when i first went out, i felt REALLY spaced out!!!

i think the best thing to do is go out when its dark, have a walk around the block or take the dog for a walk if you have one (not many people around when its dark)...this might help build your confidence back up and discover theres more to life than the 4 walls ;)

see you on the outside ;)

I know how you feel. I used to be in your position. Here is how I did it. I took small steps first thing i did was just step outside the door. I kept doing this until I felt comfortable to make the next step. You have to keep working at this little by little until you feel that you can go out without any problems. Seeking professional help is the main key, and I strongly suggest you do when you feel comfortable enough to go out. I wish you the best of luck.

You need to find an agoraphobia specialist. They WILL come to your home and conduct your therapy there as long as they feel it is necessary. Look on-line for agoraphobia chat rooms or help groups for support. Anti-depressants are not useless, but they may not work for you. You definitely should be on something for anxiety, because whether or not you can tell it's working, it will help some.
