The Crescent moon with a star in the middle.

http://islam.about.com/library/weekly/aa060401a.htm

Based on this history, many Muslims reject using the crescent moon as a symbol of Islam. The faith of Islam has historically had no symbol, and many refuse to accept what is essentially an ancient pagan icon. It is certainly not in uniform use among Muslims.

But it is still widely used on top of Mosques building, on flags etc.

I guess the symbol that is equivalent to the christian cross is the crescent moon with the star in the middle. It's normally on top of the domes of mosques, and i guess some people wear it on a chain across their necks. Here's a picture:

But i think the arabic symbol allah is also used alot. Some people wear that on their necks as pendants and instead of hanging a cross in a room, they normally hang the name allah, well atleast from my experience they do that. Something like this:

the writing in the middle of the yellow circle is the world allah, everything else is just decoration.

technically there's no "real" symbol for the religion, because i think that counts as idolizing. but... oh well.

http://www.ifrc.org/ "International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies"

http://www.ifrc.org/who/emblem.asp

"Unfortunately, the emblems are sometimes perceived as having religious, cultural or political connotations. This has affected respect for the emblems especially in certain conflict situations and has diminished the protection the emblems offer to victims and to humanitarian and medical personnel.

"The societies have adopted a diamond-shaped emblem for outreach to cultures which might be uncomfortable accepting aid from sources perceived to be Christian or Muslim."

And, to anticipate the next question:

http://www.afmda.org/site/PageServer "American Friends of Magen David Adom" (Red Star of David) This is what I got when I typed http://www.magendavidadom.org into my browser.

Google search: red star of david

http://www.aish.com/jewishissues/jewishsociety/Sabotaging_Israels_Red_Star_of_David.asp

Apparently, the Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies have not accepted Magen David Adom as a sister organization, and this is seen as an injustice.

Let's see.Crescent moon?Islam is being called pagan worship.Allah is Arabic for god.Allah is being called a meccan moon god idol. The Muslims worship a black square box in Mecca(that piece of info can't be denied). That is supposed to be Allah.
The pieces of the puzzle are coming together now.
Sure sounds like text book pagan worship from this vantage point.
I worship a man who has nail scars in his hands. He died for me.I haven't heard of Muhammad laying his life down for his people.
The more evidence that comes against Islam. The more it's non believable. It's violent background and violent future has no place in today's world if everybody wants peace.

Ok I am Muslimah and we do not believe in symbols. That Crescent moon with the star is from the time of the Ottoman Turks ruled Arabia. That is not our symbol but try wikipedia.org and type in symbols.

Actually there is no symbol. Alot would say a crescent moon, yet that is innovation (bidah). We are to not have things like that. They say a crescent moon due to the Islamic calander. It goes by the crescent moon.

It's the crescent moon. Here's a picture proving where this symbol of Islam came from. This is the pagan god allah:
