Exceptions should not be made of religious ceremonies, look at it that way. If a practice is deemed unethical, it should be ceased.

Peyote use by Native Americans has been upheld in court. Ditto for religious animal sacrifice for Santeria.

What do THE Catholics do with the choir boys? That's too wild a generalisation...
Anyway, any practice should be allowed if:
- they're in accordance with the local legal system,
-they do not endanger third parties.
-they do not endanger the doer, if the doer is a minor.

I think there are a set of laws that prohibit certain practices of religion.
Live sacrifice of humans and animals are strictly forbidden.
Multiple wives are also against the law.
etc etc....
The laws that were created, were voted upon for the good of the people and the protection of all.

Why shouldnt it be allowed??
Native Americans have been using this for centuries for religious purposes. And snake handlers....well, if they die, so be it.
Why must the Govt insist on protecting people from their own stupidity? This is one of the reasons we cannot watch evolution occcurring - the Govt prevents natural selection of the morons by protecting people from themselves!

If the practice does not affect others - then yes. If it harms or abuses others mentally, physically, or emotionally others then no society should stop it.
FYI - I do not believe that simply seeing a symbol from another religion constitutes abuse.

It should be allowed so long as it doesn't infringe on others' rights or harm anyone. As for the snake handling, I don't know why that is illegal except perhaps it is seen as cruel to the snakes; no one is FORCED to handle them.

I think that as long as people aren't doing anything to hurt anyone else, they should be able to do what they like. If they are hurting others, it shouldn't be allowed, regardless of the reason.

If any practice, offends others, then do not do it, We as Children of God are not to do anything if it offends our brothers and sisters. Do not eat meat around those who claim they are vegetarian. etc...
