build up a routine
bath, milk, story with cuddle then bed - each time he stirs leave him for a couple of minutes then lie him back down in the cot and leave the room - sounds harsh but within 7 days i had a very troublesome toddler sleeping like the proverbial baby - good luck xx

Just read him a story, settle him down and tell him good night, if he gets out of his cot (if he has learnt that skill yet) put him back, if he cries, pop your head in and say good night and put the blanket over him again.

Do this two or three times then if he still crys don't say anything just lie him down and put the blanket over him and leave the room, he'll soon settle himself down.

Its hard listening to your baby cry but tough love is good love

Put him in there while he's still awake, kiss him goodnight, and leave the room. He will cry. Let him. He'll get over it, and be able to go to bed awake within a week if you stand firm and don't give in.

move him out the cot into a toddler bed.

Get him a Little Tikes car bed and he'll be running to bed every night!

My daughter likes to have a story read to her. She also has a tv in her room. She lays in her bed and watches tv then falls asleep

He's 19 months old, right, not 19 years?

So, like he has a choice! Pick the little sod up and shove him in there.

Put him in it and don't take him out. (I assume by "cot" you mean "crib") If he cries, let him cry. He needs to learn how to put himself to sleep.

start using this time to sit with him and read to him. or

start a homemade story with him, you think of something of a storyline and ask him to add a name or a place or a color, or something.

if he has a tv in his room, sit and watch it with him.
