My computer got a trojan on it, so I was re-installing windows XP. I'm using a disk that I got through my campus, so it's a volume licensing edition.

The computer crashed twice while I was trying to install. The 2nd crash (the computer just shut off) came right at the end of the install, so I'm not sure if it installed all the way or not.

But now when I reboot, it does ask for the windows login (Administrator and no password seem to be the only option it will take), but once I enter that, it crashes...giving me error code 0X80004005 and saying it can't validate the registration key.

NOW...the other problem is that I can't get my machine to "boot from the CD drive". It says to press any key...and I've tried every key...holding down the key, pressing a key multiple times...but it just doesn't go to the CD drive.

Any help?

Sounds like a Driver issue to me. Have you tried to install Roxio CD writing software? If So, you need to go into Safe Mode and uninstall it. It may have corrupted the CD-Rom driver in windows. To get to Safe Mode, use F8 during the boot process, right before the XP Logo appears.

Sincerely,
Marcello.

The ANY key is only on select makes and models of keyboards. Yours must not have it! *snicker*
