depending on whether you mean dress code or uniformity.
i'm complete against uniformity simply because clothing is another form of individuality and taking that away just makes us robots and that's ridiculous.
on the other hand, dress code is very very important.
it keeps trashy girls from using their clothing to get attention in a way that shouldn't be given. simply because you can dress that way doesn't mean you should. aside from all other things school is still for learning not a fashion show. it's fine to look nice but the dress code keeps it from going overboard.
EXCEPTION: flip-flops being banned is totally ridiculous. while safety is important so is comfort. if they are that concerned about safety the should take out the stairs.
hope this helps. <3

I don't think dress codes are unfair, because they are doing it for a few reasons. Do you notice how girls dress now? There shorts have no limits and they try to let their chest hang out. Boys wear it so their boxers hang out. It's to much of a distraction in the classroom. No wonder kids are starting to have sex so young. Also take into consideration that kids get picked on for what they wear. Yes I know kids can't afford good clothes, but school probably has a program to help those in need. I think uniforms are a great Idea I wish they had it when I attended.

What should be unfair about a uniform?
First of all, I think school uniform can be interpreted in many ways, they don't necessarily need to include jacket and tie. Uniform Jeans and polo-shirts with the school logo and sweaters or rugby shirts in winter also serve the purpose.
I think uniforms at school are something good for several reasons:
- Pupils can identify with their school, by wearing the
school's uniform.

- Status symbols like brand clothes become irrelevant during school. Mabe the pupils will focus more on who their class mates are and less on what they wear.

- There is less peer pressure on children to follow certain trends, so against what might seem obviously to be the consequence of making everybody wear the same clothes, and by this making everyone the same it gives more freedom for intellectual individualism.

- It becomes less visible from which social class a student comes from.

- In a way a school uniform also is kind of a work outfit for children. Research in Germany has shown, that schools who introduce school uniforms recently have encountered less disciplinary problems than before the introduction. The pupils role at school is reflected by what he wears.

No. But I believe that having to wear a uniform IS. The difference between the two is that dress codes keep kids in line, but you are still allowed to wear whatever you want (under the supervision of a dress code) I mean some kids, mostly girls can get a little out of had and dress very revealing almost whorish, and the school doesn't want that. But uniforms just make you conform and everyone looks the same and that is not fair.

Nope. When you grow up and go into the business world, you will run up against dress codes all the time. I've worked in offices where women are not allowed to wear pants, or where everything is "business casual" meaning no sport coats and ties, or everything is relaxed. School dress codes are simply an extension of this. Schools that require uniforms -- like khaki pants and polo-style shirts -- eliminate the peer pressure and hostilities that can erupt from wearing the wrong colors or such.

I can agree with both sides of the dress code issue.

For many, I think dress codes are a good solution, especially for middle & high schools. Children become very aware of their images at an early age. If they don't have the clothing to fit a certain image, it can cause trouble. Children are taunted because they don't wear the "right" clothes, and children who do wear the "right" clothes, think they're "better" than the ones that don't. With uniforms, everyone's on the same level.

as long because of the fact the gown code is enforced equitably at your college (meaning that all and sundry pupils ought to stay with the comparable gown code or get the comparable punishment), then definite the code is honest. that would not advise all of us will like the policies, yet no longer liking something isn't the comparable situation as that something being unfair. Your college's gown code seems greater formal than the colleges i'm familiar with (the two public and private). that may no longer inevitably undesirable. In some techniques this could nicely be a greater honest way of doing issues; because of the fact all of us ought to fulfill the comparable gown code, then there is way less concentration on who has the maximum up-to-date fashion designer labels or who's donning the maximum up-to-date fad....the situation to be inventive and standout could nicely be shown via your college artwork, or your after college activities, the form you communicate-write-draw, and so forth. What do you like least approximately your college's gown code? have you ever suggested this with your mum and dad? Do you have a scholar government, and if so, have they ever debated the gown code? Are there different issues approximately your college which you like, issues that are great approximately your college-and so perhaps this is nicely worth it to handle the gown code for some years? honest or no longer, all of us ought to make alternatives now and back....all of us do issues we do unlike now and back because of the fact interior the top we would be greater suitable off. carry in there. remember which you would be able to placed on what your mum and dad enable and what you choose afterschool and on weekends....

Not entirely. It cuts down on kids getting picked on by others for not wearing expensive clothes, it cuts down on young girls dressing like you know whats, to get attention. I actually like it because, i sent my daughter to school with a ball cap on, she wanted to wear a ball cap, apparently there is a rule in school, NO HATS. I didn't know this and i thought this was a stupid rule, but whatever. See if there was a uniform policy there would be no questions on dress code. Besides i get sick of the early morning fights about what to wear.

I have a couple of thoughts on that - I think they're unfair in the sense that they take away individuality - everyone looks the same and people aren't free to express themselves by what kind of clothing they chose to wear. In another sense though, they may be good because then people aren't being judged by what brand of clothing they wear - so for someone that cant afford to go out and buy name brand clothing the uniforms may offer them a sense of relief

Most rules and laws are in existence, thanks to, the people who abused the privledge before the rules and laws existed. Look at why the "rule makers" made the rule. How were things before the rule/law?
The few (idiots) always screw things up for the many. Consider any law, for example DUI laws. Some dumb people thought it a great idea to drink and then drive. The normal rational person would KNOW that is a bad idea but the few idiots require a whole set of laws to protect others and themselves from others and themselves.
