Have you recently changed washing powders or liquid laundry detergents?
This could cause itching. Also, do you live in the country where he might be playing in a wooded area where he might be getting chiggers or poison ivy/oak? While he is playing sports....does he ever wear any equipment that might be used by other players? If none of these exist, you should probably take him to a doctor and have him examined to see if he has any ideas.

It sounds almost like a jock itch. It could be from sweating and wearing tight underwear. Have him apply some over the counter anti fungal cream to it.. If it doens't work give the DR a call.

If he's not circumsized it could be an infection of sorts - but jock itch sounds like a reasonable answer. I think it's important for him to be in tune with his body and for you to take his concern seriously. I would seek medical advice.

I have one that is very athletic as well who also used to complain about that. I took him to the doctor and he said to get him some Gold Bond powder for him to use every day. He had the beginnings of "Jock Itch" - hard to imagine on a pre-pubessant boy, but the doctor told me it was about sweat, not puberty.

You have changed washing detergent or soap have you. I know that causes a reaction to my 10 year old sometimes when I change what I wash our clothes in or if I change soaps. If he is active in sports, it could just be jock itch. I would just call his doctor and ask.

You have smegma buildup from not cleaning your unit bud! Try washing it in the shower thoroughly with soap and water. If this doesn't work, pour Hydrogen Peroxide over it as this will kill any bacteria on the penis which causes the odor also.
