Well, the best thing to do is to reboot and press F8 when you pass the memory count part and right before seeing the windows logo. At this point you will get a menu, choose Safe Mode with Networking and try to work like that for a day or two... it wont be the interface you are used to but you will be able to tell if it is faster. If it is faster in Safe Mode, I would go back to normal mode and look at the last installed applications. Try to remove any applications that you have not used in over 6 months.

If this is not working, I would look to see if the Indexing service is on and whether it is indexing constantly. Does your hard disk light work all the time? even when you are not using the PC?

Sincerely,
Marcello.

I would recommend getting yourself a very good virus scan program that has built in anti-spy software. I recomment Avast Virus Scan! It only cost $39.95 a year and works great! It has helped speed up my computer Drasticly

i would advise installing an anti spyware checker program
http://www.lavasoft.com then get adaware SE and then download and install.
and run full system scan

and other program is system mech pro 6
from http://www.iolo.com this program has a 30 day trail but worth using for those 30 days since it will find any windows problems and anything causing slowness.
