No man can use a 20 pound sword in combat. The only actual swords that reached that sort of weight were in the non-combat sword category, which were bearing swords, used for processions and ceremonies, and executioner's swords, which were usually quite broad and meant to take a head off with a single strike.
As for length and width, you're going even bigger than the largest zweihanders here. But all in all, simply put, a sword like this would snap at the tang extremely quickly. That is a fantasy piece, my friend, not a combat blade.
If you intend to get into Western martial arts, do your homework first.

Are you talking about a martial arts sword or a Dungeons and Dragons sword? 4 to 7 inches wide? thats more like Conan the barbarian's sword.

Trying to live out a fantsany?
Train with invisibe air sword would be the way to go. You simply wrap your hands around the air handle anywhere you want to and start to swing it around. You simply have to imagine it cutting stuff or people and it'll work.

Have a blank cut from 1/4 inch plate steel at a welding shop, then finish it yourself with an axle grinder. That way you can have whatever pattern turns your crank.

LARPing questions belong in the LARPing section.
If you want help I suggest you post your question here at www.bullshido.net
be very nice say you want the sword for LARPing and you won't get flammed. (live action role playing) Don't pretend you are training and they will treat you nice.
