I was reading that the fence will not be so much a physical blockade, but a so called "virtual" fence of monitors and sensors.
Didn't they already prove that this type of barrier was not sufficient and that the maintenance was expensive and neglected?
Have you heard the same reports?

Yes it is supposed to be a mix of both and yes the "virtual fence" is a waste. I think the virtual stuff is a waste unless they have border patrol right there to do something with the people that are crossing. Heck there's people with video cameras filming everyone crossing everyday.......we need the man power to catch them, not photograph them.

Again...the fence is not the total answer, only part of it. There is nothing that is 100% perfect, but it can make a dent.

I think they said there will be 700 miles of an actual fence and the rest of it will be a virtual fence.

A serious commitment to border security
would require fencing off the entire southern border—
all 1,891 miles of it.
(For comparison,
we have 40,000 miles of Maintained US Interstate Highways.)

At $1.7 million per mile
(the cost of the first 10 mile stretch in San Diego),
the entire U.S.-Mexican border
all 1,891 miles of it.
could be sealed off for $3.3 billion dollars.

Iraq spending equivalent: 13.8 days.

Cost/benefit analysis, anyone?

This fence is already being built on donated private land in Arizona.Perhaps the US government needs to let the Minute Men do it.It seems they are the only ones interested in doing it right.its also being done with donations of materials, labor and money.

Great post JD

A fence never stopped anyone that wanted to cross it. so one will work as well as the other one

There will be no fence going up. All that money Congress appropriated is going in the government officials pockets.
