I'm not talking about a fashion show, but wearing the best of what you have...instead of wearing jean shorts or spandex and a halter, maybe slacks and a top?

I should clairfy--there are variables, a homeless person probably doesn't have dress clothes, I'm talking about normal, everyday folks who decide to go to church in sweat pants and a dirty t-shirt....

What Do You Indicate by Your Dress and Grooming?
The clothing that we wear and the way that we wear it make a definite statement about us—our beliefs, attitude, and intentions. The styles that we choose state who we are and what we stand for. We must never promote the debased thinking and conduct that is popularized by the world. Our concern is not whether a certain style is extremely fashionable but whether it is appropriate for one professing to be a minister of God. (Rom. 12:2) Rather than choose a look that flaunts an independent spirit or that suggests an immoral life-style, we want to show that we truly “glorify God.”—1 Pet. 2:12.
At times, one who is new, inexperienced, or spiritually weak might accept whatever the world promotes in dress and grooming without first considering how it reflects on God and his organization. All of us might undertake some self-scrutiny to see if we have been influenced by the world’s thinking. We could approach a respected, spiritually mature man or woman and ask for an honest observation about our style of clothing and grooming and then seriously weigh the suggestions given.
Some readily agree that they should be careful about how they dress while in attendance at the spiritual meetings. But then they lower their standard during leisure activities after the sessions. Maintain the high standard that befits Christian ministers. (2 Cor. 6:3, 4) Wherever we go in public our appropriate dress and grooming identify us as Christians. Hence, our clothing should always be well-arranged and modest, indicating that we are “no part of the world.”—John 15:19.
We should always follow the Scriptural admonition to “adorn [ourselves] in well-arranged dress, with modesty and soundness of mind, . . . in the way that befits [those] professing to reverence God.”—1 Tim. 2:9, 10.
(Now we have people walking around with there rear ends sticking out! This is all part of the worlds thinking-Christians want to avoid.)
Malachi 3:18 . . .And YOU people will again certainly see [the distinction] between a righteous one and a wicked one, between one serving God and one who has not served him.”
Never would we want to be like the man Jesus singled out in his illustration of the marriage feast: “When the king came in to inspect the guests he caught sight there of a man not clothed with a marriage garment.” Upon learning that this man had no valid reason for wearing such disrespectful attire, “the king said to his servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and throw him out.’”—Matthew 22:11-13.
Something to think about!!

so if they don't dress then they go to church naked? See, now that would be a reason for me to go back!!! I think that it really shouldn't matter how one dresses, but it should matter what is in their hearts. Putting a dress code or more restrictions is lame, people should be free to wear what they want. I know allot of people who have left the judgmental environment of a church and have home fellowships now. no one to impress or "offend" that way! Love should be the focus, not someones attire! that's very superficial. BTW I am no longer a christian, but I still understand these things quite well! :) Best wishes.

ok, I do consider you on the area about mum and dad letting their teenage daughters flow to church searching wat too sexual and provacative. purely this moring I said a lady with a gown on so short she may have bent over somewhat and also you'll have considered her butt for confident! And on the prompt replaced into Easter at that!! yet i am going to assert that although i trust we could continually gown respectable and to our greatest ability, i don't believe of we ought to placed on dresses or gown up clothing for all time both. My pastor wears blue denims and shoes and yet he extremely loves God and God's people. God judges the middle yet people choose the outward visual attraction. yet we could continually nonetheless gown to the position we are not making someone lust after us! in case you position on denims and a blouse to church and your there to worship God and your not distracting people then thats what concerns the most- worshiping God. some people gown so fancy with hats and all yet yet they're may be non secular and faraway from being a christian and also you'll have someone are available in wearing denims and they are authentic and in love with God! look on the middle formerly you go with!!

I agree with Melaniegirl! I was raised wearing dresses or skirts to church and in my church we still do to this day! People have lost respect for God and go to church as a formality these days! I believe in wearing your best clothes to worship God in!

So why don't you start writing church goer reviews Ms Black? I never did believe that church should be a place to flaunt appearance or to try to impress others. You go to worship God. The Pharisees went to church dressed to impress and instead drew the chagrin and disdain of Jesus. I don't recall the gospel ever telling of a time that Christ turned anyone away because they did not dress up. In fact, did it ever mention Him ever wearing his "Sunday best"? God does not care about the packaging, only about the contents. Did God dress up Adam and Eve? No! They dressed to hide themselves because of their shame. Shame on you!!

I don't know, I was raised in a baptist church where we always dressed in dresses and very strict and still to this day I do it. I think churches are now trying to cater to people to make them feel good . . where what you slept in it won't matter. No offense.

as long as it is not offensive and showing off and body parts, why should it matter?
everyone is attending church to glorify God aren't they....well at least they are supposed to. God said come as you are, so I dont believe that people should have to dress nice. Dressing up is only for the sake of other people. God is not going to judge you by what you are wearing....

Doesn't the idea of being materialistic contradict what church and religion is about in the first place. I don't think it should matter what someone's physical appreance is about...it should be about what's inside their hearts.

I think it because of the lack of respect we are having for are self's.The lack of respect we have for our self has nothing to do with how other people dress.

Lack of respect for Christ. They see church as a side show or an opportunity to get something for themselves. God will have his say on this.
