The piercing will take an AVERAGE 6 months to heal. Keep in mind everyone's body is different, so you need to assume what would be best for your body.
After 3 months, the initial healing is done, at this point, risk for infection, migration and rejection are at a minimum. But keep in mind it might not be fully healed, so extreme care should be used. As long as the area is not leaking any puss, shows no sign of redness or soreness, you should be okay to change the jewelry. Keep in mind, you need to use jewelry of high quality and it shoud be CLEAN. Run the piercing under VERY HOT water and if need be, take it to a piercer and see if it can be cleaned in an autoclave. Be sure to wash your hands before you change the jewelry as well.
Another thing is you might experience some soreness upon changing the jewelry, if this happens use a warm water sea salt soak until 2-3 times a day until the feeling subsides. If you are worried you won't be able to get the old jewelry out and the new jewelry in, for a small tip, a piercer should be willing to do it for you. At worst, you might just have to clean it again more regularly, but I doubt you'll get an infection.

Hmmm well I changed mine after having it for about I would say 8 months. But as long as you are careful and make sure and clean it properly it should be fine. Remember the key word is SHOULD it could get infected. I wouldn’t do it if you still have discharge, irritation, redness, swelling or still catch in on you shirt and stuff. Something that took me months to stop doing. If you don’t have any thing like that and you don’t yank it anymore and you think that it wouldn’t be a problem then go for it but be careful.

You should wait, some people don't and it's fine, I waited the six months, the worst that can happen is that it will get infected and be gross. If you do decide to change it make sure you wash your new jewelry well so that there will be little chance for infection.

I got mine pierced a few years ago. I was reallly nervous to change it, but after a few months..maybe like 4..i could move it around and pull on it (lightly) and it felt fine, so I changed mine. I have never had a problem with it and it's never gotten infected. I would say that if it looks and feels very healed then you should be ok!! GOOD LUCK!!

Okay, listen to Anti-You.
I try to hold my answers off because of her, it's her thing.
She's awesome and knows what she 's talking about.
You can always go ask your piercer for advice..
