Bush could not have declared war - only Congress can declare war. He could have asked them to declare war, but that's really not been how America has done things for the past 50 years. If the president asks Congress for funding and authority to use force, and they grant it, then that's our declaration of war.
As for the ousting of the Taliban and Saddam, yes, it was unquestionably the correct thing to do. The reasons they were right are the reasons the President and his administration gave years ago when they sought Congressional and UN approval, those remain valid today.

Congress already approved the use of force years ago & it 's funding ever since. A formal Declaration is actually quite rare in history. Also, We are not at war with the nation of Iraq. So who are you declaring are on???? Yes I agree with the war. Why? the status quo was not working. Saddam was a threat to other gulf states in the region and providing aid to Terrorists in Gaza. He had active NBC program and would have skimmed more "Oil for Food" money to support it. We have achieved a great deal over there. Will are building a nation from scratch & it wil act as a buffer to expansionist plans of Iran. The willingness to use force should resolve to other powers to change their ways like Libya & Syira. It also showed Iran & North Korea we will respond if needed. While it has it's costs, the long term good is worth it.

No I don't agree with the war! It should have never happened! We would have been a lot better off! As it is now Bush is just recruiting terrorist!
We are so against the war that my state threw out 2 incumbent Republicans, the only ones that were running, and replaced them with Democrats, 1 a female who was unheard of 3 months ago! We haven't had a Democrat as a congressman or senator since 1912!!
Does that give you a clue?
Bush can't declare war!
Another dim light!

Yes! He did what had to be done. They came here first, they drew first blood! We had to fight or we would have continued to be a target!
Wars never go as planned, but President Bush is right to be there and stay until the job is finished.
I love our soldiers and I'm sad to hear when one dies, but that is not Bush's fault. It is just what war is.

yes in afganistan no in iraq no solid plan on what winning gets us aside from more instablity in the mideast. To many american deaths for a people who hate us no matter what we do.The mess will have to be cleaned up by whoever wins next time becuase Bush has no idea how to get out and doesn't listen to anyone else about how it could be done.

in certainty that conflict replaced into never declared, Congress voted to fund a police action. conflict replaced into never declared in Korea or Vietnam or Panama or Grenada,or Afghanistan or Kosavo. This president will bypass down in historic past for ignoring stability of capacity of the legislative and judiciary branches of government.

yes in retired navy and I've been to Iraq many times. as military and civilian. you need to understand that the extreme Muslims want death to all infidel's.911 is a good example Iraq was a safe place for terrorist.Saddam funded them heavily along with osama bin laden.if we don't stop them first they will continue trying to kill innocent Americans.they are nuts they strap on bombs and blow themselves up in subways on planes etc.if we where not at war with them our streets would look like downtown bagdad

no, i don't agree with the war, if there were no WMD's... as I recall, that was the issue that they really sold it to us on. I would have preferred an announced assassination campaign against who we termed criminals, unless they turned themselves in by a generous date, say 3 months. Then special forces, satellite lasers, computer-chip controlled wildlife with high explosives, the works.
