If a person is inpatient at a psychiatric hospital, they are usually a danger to themselves or others. There they can be medically monitored, medicated and restrained if necessary to be safe. Once they have calmed down, they will have therapy several times a day and try to fix what can be fixed. Hopefully when they leave and stay on their medications, continue outpatient therapy.....they will no longer be a danger to anyone and can work and live normally. That's how it's supposed to work. For the most part it does. Some people are just unable to live outside of an institutional setting and that's a damn shame.

I have been to a mental hospital 4 times in the last 3 years. Sometimes they do help and sometimes they don't, it depends on alot of things. First does the person really want help or were they forced to go there? With someone that has a mental disability and they don't want to get better than they won't no matter what the doctors do or say. Most reasons why people are put in mental hospitals is so they can be watched 24/7 by professionals. They make you take your meds. They make you go to therapy every hour. the mental hospital that I have been to is not like what you would see in a movie. It's not scary like that.

They are not only for the " mentally Ill" Psyc wards are for many purposes and they do help for alot of people. I had to go to one once because my dr. put me on the wrong pill and I went nuts, come to find out I was right all a long and I was just tired. It all depends on the severity of the patients' illness. But yes I believe everyone can get better, sometimes it just takes time and paitients. Good luck.

Really, no.
More of a safe haven for folks who are scared silly of the outside world.
But,
Therapeutic in any way?
No.
People screaming all night, shuffling about like they are half-dead, only thing to look forward to is the next terrible meal.....
The only purpose todays' mental health facility serves is to be a place to keep those poor MFers under close supervision while clueless doctors experiment with different medications.
Sad but true.

Yes i strongly belive it will help but then again it does depend on the person do they actually want help? Or were they put there unwillingly? Nothing will help a person if they do not want then help.
