See if the vet will let you make payments for the operation. If they won't, they do not have your dogs best interest at heart, and I would change vets.

If by "ear operation" you mean ear cropping, don't do it. I'm not anti-cropping - I have a cropped Doberman puppy - but it is an expensive and optional surgery that no dog physically needs. It is purely aesthetic.

However, if this is a necessary ear surgery, ask your vet about Care Credit or accepting payment plans. It's not fair to your dog to not get him the medical care he needs. He doesn't understand "Sorry, I can't afford it!"

Either way, if you can't afford a surgery for your dog, you can't really afford the dog. Please really think about this. Get a credit card specifically for the dog's vet bills, start setting money aside, look into pet insurance, or maybe find a new home for the dog if you really can't afford him.

Most vet have payment plan options, and I know people with horrible credit who have no problem getting a credit card so you can afford it, you just dont want to make it difficult on yourself. If you give the dog away dont get another one. All dogs will need medical care at some point in their life and if you arent willing to make the sacrifice then dont get a dog. I have quite a bit of debt from getting my dogs knees repaired but thats the life of a pet owner

Pls. Wait until you can afford a Vet or Specialist, I've seen a backyard cropping of the ears , it look extremely painfull, and the ears didn't turn out right. Maybe talk to a breeder(they know alot in this field). You want your dog to look its best right. You wouldn't let your friend Ted give you a hair cut would you, so din't let Ted Cut your dogs ears, get them done right. Hope this helps.

what kind of 'ear operation' would a dog 'need'? are you wanting to get the ears cropped? b/c if you can't afford it, that's a good reason not to do it, and it isn't needed. also the way you have it worded makes it sound as if your dog is the one who can't afford the operation.

Why don't you go to your nearest SPCA and tell them you will volonteer your services in exchange for your dogs operation? I don't know if they "will" do this, but it sure can't hurt to ask either. Tell them you haven't any money, you love all animals, and are willing to work something out, as your dog needs this operation "now." Either that, or ask your dogs vet if you can please make payments on this bill. Okay? Good luck.

The SPCA has a program to help get Vet care and food to pet owners who can not afford it, I would try them first. If not look into getting a credit card then you could make payments. Good Luck.
