I just noticed today I got a lil tiny wart on the inside of my thumb. I had a couple back in grade 7 and I used the tape/band aid method. But it took months. Anything quicker? I don't want it to spread!
I am thinking I just noticed it because typically I wear thumb rings, and I took them off last night and I forgot to put them back on.
I read that stress causes them to re-appear, oh boy I believe it! lol
Thanks all!

Go to doc and have it frozen off. You can do it yourself, there is a product that will do the same thing.

Go to the drug store or even Target or Walmart or a grocery store and buy wart remover. They have one that has Salicylic Acid in it that you apply to the wart every day over the course of several weeks (read and follow the directions on the bottle). They also have one that freezes warts off. I haven't tried that one yet, but it's probably faster (and more painful) Make sure what's on your hand is a wart and not a mole or something else before you start treating it with wart remover.

There are at least two professional wart removal products OTC these days, that work like getting them frozen off in the Dr.'s office. Dr. Scholl's Freeze Away and Wartner Wart Removal System are both available at local drug stores and supercenters. Follow the instructions carefully, as this product can burn the skin badly. Another home remedy is good ol' duct tape, applied directly to the wart.

Like prescription treatments, over-the-counter treatments usually require multiple applications, and are only necessary if the warts are problematic. Additionally, these treatments are capable of destroying healthy skin as well as warts, so caution must be exercised by those attempting them without medical supervision.

I have had real good luck with what is called "Mediplast" which looks like a large bandaid and you cut off enough to cover the wart and it is self adhesive although I would also put a regular bankaid over it. You can find them at the pharmacy.

Warts are caused by a virus. The easiest way to deal with them is to call your doctor's office and set up an appt for wart removal. It is relatively painless and scarfree... *smile* Good luck and take care!

Warts are caused by a virus called Human Papillomavirus er treatment is to inject each wart with an anti-cancer drug called bleomycin. The injections may be painful and can have other side effects.(HPV). The virus causes skin to grow faster than usual, forming a bump. HPV is contagious. You can get it from other people or from locker room and shower floors. However, touching someone with warts does not mean you will definitely catch the virus. It depends on the particular strain of HPV and on the strength of your immune system. Breaks or cuts in the skin may make infection more likely. You've cannot contract warts from touching frogs or toads. That's just a myth.

Left alone, most warts will eventually go away. It takes six months to two years for the body to fight off the virus. If a wart isn't causing any problems, it may be easiest not to treat it at all. If, on the other hand, it's in a noticeable place or interferes with activity, wart removal is an option.

Some people, especially those with circulation problems, should skip the drugstore and home remedies and consult a doctor first. Warts that appear on the genitals or on mucous membranes such as the inside of the lip should be treated only by a doctor. So should warts on infants and very young children. In addition, if you have any concern that your skin condition is not a wart (for example, if you're worried about skin cancer), check with the doctor before trying to treat it yourself.

Your doctor will probably try one of these things:
* Freezing. Your doctor may use liquid nitrogen or a substance similar to over-the-counter freezing treatments.
* Acid. Your doctor may use a strong acid or other medication to cause the skin to blister, lifting away the wart so it will fall of or can be easily removed.
Other treatments for stubborn warts include cutting them away with a scalpel, laser removal, burning with a special electrical device, injections to disrupt or kill the virus, and medicines to boost the immune system. These are usually reserved for warts that don’t go away with other treatments.

Information About Warts
Warts are non-cancerous skin growth cause by a viral infection. Majority of them are harmless. The viruses that cause warts are called human papilloma virus (HPV). Warts are usually the same colour as our normal skin and it has a rough surface, but they can be dark, flat or smooth. The appearance of the wart will depends where it is growing. There are several common types of warts:

* Common warts
* Plantar Warts (Foot Warts)
* Flat warts
* Facial warts

How do we get Warts
Warts are contagious and may be passed from individual to individual directly or indirectly. Wart takes several months to grow large from the first point of contact. Some individuals have antibodies against the wart virus. Wart virus occur more easily if the skin has a cut or abrasion. Therefore, children have a higher frequency of warts.

Recurrent of Warts
Wart can often reoccur. This may be because the old warts have shed viruses in the surrounding skin before they were treated. The best way to limit this is to treat new warts as soon as possible before they develop and shed the virus to surrounding areas of the skin.

Removal of Warts
Self treatment of wart removal is generally not recommended for any kinds of warts. If you have to self treat your wart there are various kinds of over the counter treatments that you can apply. Most of these preparations would contain acids or chemicals. But it could take up to several treatments and over a period of time before you can see improvements. The treatment may cause little discomfort. It also should be kept in mind that the acids or chemicals contained in the preparation can also destroy the good skin cells surrounding the warts.

Warts such as common warts can be treated by "painting" with cantharidin by a dermatologist. Cantharidin causes a blister to form under the wart. The dermatologist then can clip away the dead part of the wart on the blister roof in a week or so.

For adults and older children a treatment called cryotherapy (freezing) is preferred. This treatment is not too painful and rarely results in scarring. Several repeated treatments at one to three weeks intervals are often necessary. Another kind of treatment called Electrosurgery (burning) is another good alternative. Laser treatment is also available and can also be used for resistant warts that have not responded to other kinds of treatments. They are move expensive and require injection of a local anesthetic to numb the area to be treated.
