No, it was not 25th of December. I was much more likely in spring.

2 Main Reasons:
1) The Romans would not call for a Census to take place in the Winter as any required travel was much more difficult. Mainly the Travel of their messengers.

2) Shepard's did not watch the flocks in pastures in the Winter. They would have been in at home. It was during the spring and summer that the the Shepard's and flocks went and stayed out at nights.

December 25thwas established as his birthday but there is no tangible proof about it. In fact it was a feast of another pagan deity plus since it oftentimes coincide with the Jewish Traditional celebration, the Roman Catholics tried every effort to make their occassions supercede if not coincide with any Jewish activities. The primary example is to change the Saturday observation of Sabbath day into Sunday (calling it Day of the risen Lord). Other religions did the same thing just to defy anything that is Jewish even if they all agree that they based their faith on the same five Books of Moses.

December 25 was not Jesus' actual birthday... there are many who think his actual birthday was in January, and there are theories which suggest that his birthday was in June as well.

The reason Christmas is celebrated on December 25 is because when the Roman Empire was in transition from polythiesm to Catholicism, one of their more important/significant gods had a celebration on that date.

The romans thought it was a good idea to put Jesus' birthday celebration on December 25 as a way to encourage its celebration, since many people were stubborn and didn't want to convert to Christianity. This made it convenient for old pagans who were stuck in old habits.

December 25th was the birth date of Mithra. The cult of Mithra, in Rome, was one of the religions competing with Christianity to become the official state religion in the 3rd century. The two cults have some striking similarities, by the way....

Anyway, both cults were large, secret organizations. Christianity was outlawed at the time, and Mithra's cult was a secret order. However, the Christian cult was larger, and it's members held more power in the political arena, which is why Mithra is not the western god of choice today..

When Christianity was made the state religion by Caesar, the birthday of Christ was changed to December 25th for political reasons. It was part of an attempt to appease the cult of Mithra.

Hi, no. As a Catholic we understand that December 25th was an "assigned" day for the celebration of the Birth of Jesus. It was originally a day for pagans to worship their god's birthday, but when these pagans were converted Christianity it was decided to keep the day a celebration but to make it the day of Jesus' birth. No one knows the actual date of Jesus' birth.

No. Christmas was moved to that date in order to circumvent the Pagan ritual of of the winter solstice (today, it is known as Yule). The dates have changed slightly since the date of Christmas was officiated by the Church; back then, Yule occurred within a couple of days of December 25. Now, Yule occurs on the 21 or 22 of the month. This year, December 22 is Yule.

Actually, we don' t know when the actual Birthday Of Our Lord Is. We celebrate His Birth on December 25'th in place of a pagan festival(Orthodox Christians celebrate His Birthday in January, in fact).

Christians have celebrated Christ's Mass on the 25th of December for centuries...probably even before Muhammed...
Even though we do not know the exact date of His birth, I see no harm in celebrating and praising God for sending us the Greatest Gift and fulfilling His promise to Abraham that the world would be blessed through his son, Isaac.
There are those who are trying to ruin this day of celebration and thanks...
Shame on them!!

No.
read somewhere one time it had to do with an old pagan tradition of welcoming the end of winter, the pagans would place 12 logs on a fire that would burn approximately 12 days and celebrate and worship the sun goddess. They also would place a wreath on their door to please the sun goddess and place branche and tree limbs through out the house to please this goddess, eventually someone got the idea to decorate these branches, thus the history of our Christmas tree. Some of these traditions and timings such as Dec.25,were mixed with Christianity to win over the pagans, sounds wrong, huh. Think about it next time your buying your tree to decorate.
Please don't take my word on any of these things, google History of the Christmas tree and read your bible.
