White marks on the nail indicate bruising that occurs to the nail below the nail bed. It appears as the bruises grow out. If it is accompanied by peeling nails, however, it could indicate a vitamin deficiency.

You can imagine them as little bruises on your fingernail. When your nail is damaged as it is growing (inside your finger) it grows out with a little white speck where it was damaged. It isn't dangerous, it's very hard to avoid them, you just must be very carefull with your hands for a few weeks in a row for them to grow out.

The white spots under your nails are calcium deposits. They are not bad, and indicate you may have a little to much calcium in your diet. This is not a bad thing though.

They're "bruises" from when you knock your fingers against things or if you've caught your fingernail in something. (If you have yellow marks, it could be nail fungus, which is another matter completely!)

It means you don't have enough calcium in your body. Just drink some more milk and the should go away.
