Nope
There is no greater satisfaction than a big better put down reply.
Also if they are smaller
a good smack in he face should not be ruled out.
Twice in fact should THEY turn the other cheek.

Ignoring the insult will make the insultor think he got what he wanted: to get to you. I also thought ignoring it was the best solution, but people take it as a weakness if you just let others insult you. The best way to handle insults is to confront the people who make them. Most people are caught off-guard by this because they don't expect their victims to confront them. Ask the insultor what makes them say something like that about you. Insulting someone back will just make you look helpless and desperate.
However, I do agree that some insults are too stupid to be taken seriously. You'll know which ones those are. The insults that are completely out of line and below the belt should be addressed directly. Personal experience has shown me that it's the only way to handle with without losing face. It will make it harder for people to insult you in the future since they have to expect to deal with you personally. And they will respect you more. Make it clear that you're not someone that can be f****d with easily. You will be more respected for not letting people walk all over you.

I love a really great insult. I like to "one up" the insulter. It does depend upon the context of the situation. I never back down from anyone. I figure that the insulter is mistaking me for a doormat of some kind, and I find that totally unacceptable. I don't ignore people whether or not I'm being insulted. A person not willing to be cowed is a person who is given more respect than someone who lets people get away with it.

Ideally.. I would say "no".
I understand in schools, this is difficult. But if you can be sure you have the support of your teachers (something I regret is not always the case), then you should put a stop to it THE FIRST TIME it happens by getting the teacher's assistance to let that student know there is a ZERO TOLERANCE policy against student harassment. Remind your teacher that you have no intention to take matters into your own hands, but in today's day and age with school shootings and all, can this teacher really afford to allow this kind of thing to go on in his classroom?
If the teacher is willing to step forward and act on your behalf, there's a good chance this should put a stop to it if it's just a problem with one kid. The teacher may just decide to separate the two of you, which is fine, but make it known this is not enough. The teacher must speak with the student to ensure he/she does not harass you again. Insist on that, but know your insistence will only work if you MAKE SURE you are absolutely blameless.)

It depends on the situation. However, at all times, maintain your dignity.
The person who insulted you will enjoy your losing your temper as a result of the insult. If the insult is snide, just rise above it. It's not worth it.
However, if it an insult to your personal integrity, or reputation, just look at them in the eye and and just say
"don't judge me by yourself." and move on.
Life is too short.

sometimes it is better to ignore them. But, whenever we have to answer them in any way. We should try not to get on that persons level. By answering trash with trash, we are not only getting on their level; we are reinforcing their behavour. We are saying it is okay to act that way. I am not saying to not defend yourself in a physical confrontation. I am saying that a kind word or humility may get someones respect quicker that a hot retort or an ugly word or two. It may not happen immediately, but it may happen. People truly respect others that are consistent with their beliefs and in their ways. If you are a young person and are having trouble with someone, tell someone older than you and see if it will help. May God bless you and love you.

No, not all insults must be ignored.. I wouldn't ignore insults that have to do with health, my family and I get really angry when people insult me by behaving like I am stupid.

Yes. Do not make an issue out of them----this is exactly what the person making the insult wants you to do. They are looking for a fight---they feed on fighting. Don not give the devil what he is asking for.
