Hsu is the same pronounciation as Xu (Hanyu Pinyin), only spelled differently.
Taiwanese use Hsu, China people use Xu.
just like Hsiao and Xiao is the same, etc.
So Hsu would be pronounced kinda like "she", or actually more like "sh'. it's hard to put in words. you have to actually hear it.

How to pronounce the Chinese name Hsu?
Is it "soo"? What's the difference between it and Tsu or Soo? Also, there's this author by the name of Jung Chang. I'm surprised that her name's pronounced "yoong." Is this a dialectic pronunciation?
Note: I have some basic knowledge of Mandarin; and the...

hsu is pronounced as 'she'/ 'xu' in mandarin.
hsu in this case is Wade- Giles (romanization system for Mandarin Chinese)
许 is a surname.
the differences is because when the british colonized some parts of SEA (south east asia), many immigrants from flooded into these countries. most of these immigrants don't speak mandarin (common/standard/ official langauge of china) , so they register their names in their own dialects...hence the complications.
if you look @ mainland china & taiwan, they do not have these problems.

Aurora is right; The Chinese name corresponding to "Hsu" is actually pronounced more like "she" (or "shü", if you know the German umlaut). The various systems (pinyin, etc.) of using Roman letters to represent Chinese sounds aren't always intuitive to English speakers; in fact, the pronunciation is closer to French than English.
However, because "Hsu" looks so little like "she", many people with that last name just pronounce it "Shu" or "Soo" to avoid confusion.
And "Jung" pronounced "yoong" is definitely correct. If you want a very comprehensive guide to pinyin pronunciation, try here:
