India is 5 and 1/2 ahead of UK.

A lot of people ask why the half hour. This stems from Victorian times when the British Army were out in the Raj. It was discovered that if you turn a watch (with hands, this doesn't work with digital) through 180 degrees it shows a 5 and 1/2 hour difference between the 2 times.

It was then decided that, rather than adjust the watch to read the time in India (which was either 5 or 6 hours) India would now be 5 and 1/2 hours ahead making it easier to tell the time using this method.
