I want to get into fasting in my walk with God. But it's difficult for me. I have tried to do this many times, but it's not physically possible. I have a very high metabolism, and if I go more than six hours without food, I start getting sick.
Should I push myself to tough it out, or should I find an alternative?

Try choosing a meal... say lunch and knock it out.
Keep eating AM and PM meals.
you dont need to tell anyone, just do it.
Instead of eating for that 45mins, PRAY.
Make your focus God instead of Food.
Fasting is not about being hungry, its about prayer and focus.

yes it is exremely important in your walk First because your denieing your Flesh. Secound it humbles your soul. If your in a congregation and they regulary fast do it its normal to get sick and feel light headed even diareah the first two days.My church about every quater or when when coming into a new season we the Pastors has a 3 day fast thats ordained by God he only does it when he's felt led by the Holy spirit to do it. Read Matthew 7:7 get on the internet look up fasting.Let me warn you though the devil doesnt like that when you fast be prepared for a battle with satan anything and everything will go wrong, but Glorious you'll find your breakthrough and put fasting with prayer and giving and you have to have a specific reason while your fasting you should statr by saying Lord i feel led to fast to have a closer relationship with you and he'll give you Mercy and dont tell everyone that your fasting because whats done in secret he'll reward you dont make people pitty you go on like a normal day for he knows what is being done.

Hi, fasting has power, with prayer and fasting great good is possible, it is a way of discriminating against the ego,and showing that God is first in my life, and of course this is very pleasing to Him.
however it should be done according to your state in life, someone in an enclosed order may fast rigorously as that is more in keeping for them, if you have an illness that would be very unwise to do.
we do that which is possible for us and should never set goals that may discourage us and make us feel as failures, God is pleased with our little efforts and this is what is really important.
personally I have set my own period of fasting from 6pm to 6am and that way I suffered no harm and could work without any ill effects, other times I have fasted four only a few hours, and again either way is pleasing to God.
God bless.

fasting does not mean all food or necessarily food at all. It is forgoing desire as an act of devout faith. It is never life threatening. The muslims practice fasting that may be appropiate for you. (they worship the one and only creator God, God of Abraham, Jaccob and Moses, Father of Jesus) THe diet is very limited and eating only happend after sunset. I am sure if you search the web you can learn of their practices or ask them here in Y/A.

You can also fast in other areas. If you are an avid tv watcher you ca nfast from tv or your favorite shows. The key is to choose something that is very difficult in who you are as a person to give up but DOES NOT THREATEN YOUR HEALTH OR LIFE. then take the time, energy and resources that you would have spent in that activity and devote it to communing with God.

Fasting also must be done privately. Do not announce your fast or draw attention to it. If it is a communal fast only those fasting with you should know and they are there for support but not for griping. Support is in the form of sharing revelations of God and God's goodness during the fast.

How sick? That is a serious question. If you are truly hypo-glycemic, then - fasting could be dangerous for you, so be careful.

"Nothing is impossible with God."

Also - it is important to remember and never forget that fasting is always linked with prayer. Pray. Pray during the fast, pray before the fast, pray after the fast. But pray. Pray, too, that God gives you the strength to keep the fast.

Also, a good meditaion for fasting is to remember the Passion of Our Lord. Remember the agony of the Cross.

Link your "suffering" (a little nausea and some hunger pangs) with His Suffering on the Cross.

Also, meditate on Jesus' forty-days of fasting in the wilderness.

Lent is a good time to practice. I still partially fast every Friday.

Good luck and God bless you.

God does not expect you to fast if it would put your health at risk. However, fasting comes in many forms. You could give up a TV show or some other activity, and spend the time you would normally be engaging in that activity praying.

No. Do not fast. What's the use of fasting when all you will get is sick and hungry. And then the body gets weak and you will loose concentration when you pray. The body is given for a purpose. Use it well. If you fast, how are the nutrients such as vitamin, carbon hidrates provide energy to your organs? How are your lips gonna say a prayer if they don't eat?

God doesn't want us to fast or do anything silly like that. A sincere prayer with love and devotion for Him will do. Just pretend He's a very good friend, and He will make sure everything goes well. All the best!

I used to fast alot. I found out that God could fast longer than I could.

Fasting is always associated in the bible with prayer and, with very very few exceptions, with deep contrition over sin.

Fasting is never presented with the idea of impressing God or trying to win His favor.

I tried it once, planning to so for a week. Ended fasting for nine days. I was so delusional it wasn't funny.

Now, in the spiritual path, when you fast you must be centered on God in deed and in prayer totally. This way you can receive spiritual strength.

But in today's world we are very used to eating. Days of long-ago, food wasn't that plentiful for the majority of peoples so fasting for, say, a week or several, wasn't necessarily that difficult. I did a college paper on fasting that's why I tried it. arf!

take it easy

after six hours without food-the big gut starts to chew on the little gut-so eat a crust of bread to stifle the juices

suggestion: begin your fast at sundown and fast through the night
prayerfully meditating

and thensometime after the sun has risen-break your fast

a 12 hour fast is commendable-as you progress in your tecnique you will notice break your fast later and later

do not starve yourself-allow your body to get accustomed to what is going on
after a short period of time you will notice minor hallucinations this is due to the lack of glucose in your system-it is during this time when reflective meditation is powerful

earlier i said that when the hunger pains become overwhelming to eat a crust of bread-notice i said "crust of bread" not a loaf of bread or a biscuit-the purpose is to give the juices in your stomach something to attack

it is all a matter of attitude

once again: timing is very important-began at sundown

My advice is try harder but slowly, don't push your self too much, God is merciful and will understand if you have any physical problems..but do not give up..try to increase the time half an hour each time..just put your thoughts in doing it and the Lord will help you in this ..trust him..
