It won't kill you (as far as I know), but it'll probably taste so bad that you'll wish you were dead. I wouldn't even bother using it for a sauce. Dump it out and get a new bottle.
In the future, even re-corked and kept in the refrigerator, I wouldn't try drinking any wine that has been opened for more than a week. There are some dessert wines that will hold up, but most wine will start to go sour pretty quickly.

Has the botten been sealed since that time?
If you have just had the cork in the top, then it is probably not good to drink anymore.
Also, if it is red or white, how have you kept it? Refridgerated or just out at room temperature.
Wine is very volitile and needs to be kept in a controlled atmosphere for it to stay drinkable for a long period of time.
You can try it, but I don't think it will be good any more!

Oh, no. I mean, you could drink, but after this long it is definetly vinegar. If you have a small taste and it doesn't make you want to heave, you can probably use it to make red/white wine vinegar. there are all sorts of sites on the internet giving recipes on how-to make your own vinegar. this way you wont have to waste the whole bottle. hope this helps.

A year and a half old? You could drink it, but either red or white I bet it will taste like vinegar.

the best thing to do is have it all at once but still god, you buy a red wine as older as it, and a white as new as it's, it will be good for a cuple of weeks
