It all depends on the size and extent of the scarring. People scar differently, so it's hard to say.

I did a really nifty one of corset laces around an appendix scar...the scar is very slight, but it looks like the laces are holding the scar together.

I have a client who's going through reconstructive surgery this spring from a mastectomy. We're going to work a floral motif around or over the scar from the site where the donor tissue will be harvested (her back) so we'll see how that goes.

It is certainly very noticeable, but people notice the tattoo, not the scar. Hardly anyone knows there is a scar underneath. Make sure you get a good, experienced tattoo artist, because the skin on a surgical scar is special and more challenging to tattoo so you need someone who knows what he or she is doing.

A friend of mine had a tattoo put over a scar and it came out really nice. The scar is barely noticable. Best to get an expert opinion, though.

i have no experience with scars and tattoos but on miami ink chris garver covered a spinal surgery scar with a tattoo and it was beautiful and made the scar much less noticeable. the tattoo was AWESOME! i would suggest going to an actual artist that is an experienced tattooer to get the best options. good luck!

A surgical scar is not easy to cover up. Any attempts in that direction could eventually be futile!

You have to go a really experience tatoo artist. My Aunt had a tatoo where her breast was removed from cancer. It looked awesome, the scarring was still visible, but it made her feel like she was still pretty even without having a breast. You have to find a really good artist though, someone who knows what they are doing.
