Well, I'm not afraid of the dark, I'm just afraid of what I might trip over in the dark. But if I have watched a horror movie, then I want a few more lights on. Espically after I watched Boogieman. Oh man that was scarry. I did get the feeling something was in the dark room with me, and turning the light on didn't really help because I still felt scarred.

I always felt afraid of the dark but my therapist studied the problem and helped me relize that my problem wasn't being afraid of the dark but was being afraid of the unknown.

I've never thought about that! Must be of the dark itself because one can't see what's there, but then that must be of whats IN the dark.... maybe it's just being afraid of the unknown...! Good question.

depends on the person, sometimes it is just afraid of darkness much like any other fear like spiders it may not be rational but it happens as a phobia does most the time. The majority of cases it will just be the fact that you cant see aswell in the dark and there could be things there e.g fear of the unknown/

a pitch black room makes me smother. I get short of breath and feel like the walls are closing in. Im also scared of things I can't see in the dark that may or may not be there. I have 3 night lights in my room and i shut my bathroom door and closet so i dont have to stare into the blackness. An also run a fan just for noise. LMAO and Im 29 and have 3 kids.

I think it's not KNOWING what's in the dark. Most of us (excluding children maybe) understand that nothing exists in the dark that doesn't exist in the light but it's not being able to see what isn't there - am I not making any sense now?
