Ahh, the old trick question. Well, to get square feet from cubic yards, you'd have to divide your cubic yards by one of the dimensions you used to get them to get that number to square yards, then you'd divide by 9 to convert sq. yds to sq. ft.

As mentioned, Cubic Yards is a Volume measure, and Square Feet is an Area measure...
On the presumption you have some volume of something and you want to know how much area it will cover, then you will need to know the thickness (on average) of the final placement over the square feet.
One cubic Yard will cover 27 square Feet if the average thickness of the layer is one foot....
Half the thickness (6 inches in this example) will double the area covering 54 square feet...
I hope this helps.

I don't think you can convert a volume to area... cubic to square. Maybe you meant to ask square yard to square feet??? If thats so then check this website out. Your question will be under the Area section.
1 cu. yard = 27 cu. ft
1 sq. yard = 9 sq. ft

1 cubic yard = 27 cubic foot.
So ,if you have 2 cubic yards, then in cubic feet it will be 54.
cubic yard IS A unit of volume and square feet is a unit of area.
if it is a cube then three sides(l,b,h) are equal , then you can calculate the area by,
length*length.
(1 yard = 3 feet [international, U.S.])
so, if u have a 1 cu. yards,
so,l*b*h=1*1*1=1cu.yards.
length*length=1*1=1 square yards
1 square yard=9 square feet.
so, in this particular case ,
1 cube yard=9 square foot.

Cubic Yards do not convert to square feet. They convert to cubic feet. Imagine a cubic yard that is 1X1X1 yard. This is 3X3X3 feet. So, there are 27 cubic feet in a cubic yard.
Number of cubic yards times 27.

you can't convert volume directly to area.
cubic is volume
square is area
you wil have to "project" the cubic thing to get to just an area.

you can't convert volume to area...so therefore you can't convert from cubic yards to square feet.
