Immediately before sliced bread, the best thing was indoor plumbing!!! Running water - hot water even - from the tap, indoor toilets, a bathroom .........fanbloodytastic! It didn't get any better for our grandparents generation.
Not sure when sliced bread was first created, but another top best thing would have had to be contraception!! Woop-de-do.
