Moderation in all things. Adjust your diet eliminating "whites" like white potatoes, white bread, white pasta. Go for fresh veggies and fruits and lean proteins. Follow a good 1200-1400 diet and you can lose as much as 2-3 lbs. a week with moderate exercise! Walking 4 times a day for 10 minutes each time will give you more benefit (higher metabolism) than one long walk. It's a matter of changing your habits. No soda, no fast foods. Look up "exchange diet", or "sugar busters" they are both excellent moderate diets. Godloveya.

You might think about trying this book called "The Movie Star Diet" by Steve Simmons. It helped me lose thirty pounds in 2 1/2 months when I didn't think anything would work. My goal to begin with was only 20 lbs! It has a really easy plan to follow and an excellent workout as well.

If you are serious about losing weight, the calories
in the food you eat should be less than the
energy you use. You will have to increase your
metabolic rate now, and plan your diet carefully.
Formulate your own weight loss plan and you will
lose weight faster. More details available at

EATING is a favorite pastime for many. For others, it is a passion.
So for the passionate and the hearty eaters who are waist-conscious and who watch their weight, here are a few tips:

1. Enjoy your meal but eat in moderation. Moderate portions of food are recommended rather than generous servings. Unless it’s a salad or a vegetable dish, oversized meals are discouraged.

2. Start with a bowl of hot soup. According to Japanese tradition, this is one of the best weight-loss tricks. Taking vegetable soups before a meal fills up your tummy so you tend to eat less. This is from Barbara Rolls, author of the “Volumetrics Eating Plan.”

3. Make lunch your main meal of the day.

This is a European practice, though inspired by Ayurveda, India’s 5,000-year-old health and wellness science. Our digestive fire or agni is strongest during the crucial time of 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thus, digestion is strongest at this time (Jennifer Workman, “Stop Your Cravings”). Just following this program could lead to weight loss.

4. Opt for quality, not quantity, in your food. The French look upon a meal as a celebration, not a duty. Thus, enjoying the best of food takes precedence over the size of servings.

5. Combine your food flavors. In Ayurveda, six basic tastes exist—sweet, sour, salty, bitter, astringent and pungent. Go ahead, let your taste buds explore!

6. Follow the color guide. The Japanese believe in dressing up a meal. Colors that have greatest nutrients are green, blue-green, red, yellow, white and black. That translates to lettuce, broccoli, peppers, squash, black beans.

7. Use healthy oils. Think virgin olive oil and virgin coconut oil (yes, it’s a great salad oil, too!).

8. When eating a meal, don’t do anything else. People who eat and watch television will end up eating more. Those who are rushing to eat in between appointments end up having junk food. The eat-and-run habit can make you eat less nutritious food.

9. Keep regular hours for regular meals. Follow some kind of regimen and routine. Better to eat regularly, rather than irregularly, and make up for the food loss by overeating.

10. Eat when you are hungry, and not because it is mealtime. While this may sound contradictory, if you eat with regularity then you will train your body to eat just right.

11. Try not to dine alone. Eating with family and friends can help you slim down. That’s because you tend to share the food placed before you. And you eat more slowly.

12. Enjoy a glass of wine. Because this beverage also has antioxidants (that counter the harmful effects of disease-causing oxygen free radicals), not only do you enjoy your meal, you also get its health benefits.

13. Don’t linger too long after a meal. If you overstay in a restaurant, you tend to order more. So, stand up after a meal and go about your business.

Staying slim is easy. If you eat right and combine this with regular exercise, you can achieve a slim figure in no time. This is as simple as it gets.

Your affirmation: “I eat well to look well.”
