Where can I find a German speaker for phone conversations?

I would like to have regular teIephone conversations for me to learn and improve my German. I would be willing to pay modest amount for this, as I am learning and wouldn't expect anyone to do this for free......I am aware that speaking to a language learner is sometimes tedious for the fluent person! Download Skype for internet telephony. In the search function you can search for people according to language too, so you can search for German speakers anywhere in the world. Most people seem to prefer a short text message first before you make a voice call. But even from just texting you can learn a lot. Hope you've installed a German keyboard layout on your computer :-)

Have something concrete to talk about as well - maybe even prepare some questions as if you were doing a little survey or interview. It really is tiring simply trying to "chat" to non-native speakers who have nothing to say..... I speak from experience as an English teacher.

Email the language/music department of a university, for example Goldsmiths ([e-mail] is the music department, look on www.goldsmiths.ac.uk to find the email address for the language department) and ask them to email all their staff/students with your request. At Goldsmiths we have lots of native German people who come over to study, and especially if you're offering a small fee it is likely a student will get back to you! Lots of people email asking for language or music tuition.

It would probably easier if you get a microphone for your PC, and join a german chat room, then you won't have an outrageous phone bill either.
