Yes I believe they make a difference. My doctor said my iron storage was low and suggested I take a multi vitamin. (I was feeling draggy for a long time before this.) I noticed a difference in my energy level after about a week of vitamins. Also I found Calcium/Magnesium pills work for women suffering from PMS.

Yes, your body needs many nutrients to function properly. Your body will still function without most of them, but not as well. Ask your doctor for the countless research studies that prove their value.
Vitamins should be obtained through a healthy diet. This is the most healthy way to get what you need. That said, I take vitamins anyway as a kind of insurance plan. There are a lot of vitamins, and I don't have time to check everything I eat for all of them.
You should start off with a good multi-vitamin. There are dozens of vitamins you need. Don't let a salesman tell you that there are any 2 or 3 that can fix everything. Get a basic vitamin. I use equate, because it is very basic and balanced. Many brand name vitamins try to be special by throwing in many minerals that you don't need. Anything that claims to be new or revolutionary, just means that it hasn't been tested and may not be helpful at all. Adding extra minerals doesn't hurt within itself, but it does mean that you get less of the vitamins you do need or that you have to take more pills a day to make up for it.
Asking your doctor to recommend a vitamin is best of all. A vitamin that is meant for your age and gender will help. Sometimes pregnancy or other conditions require special consideration.

Taking a multi vitamin is a good idea because most of us do not eat properly. And even if we do, there is no way we will be able to eat all the recommended foods for each day. In your case a vitamin specifically for women is best. I have been taking Women's ONE A DAY for years. I have never had a cold during winter. Multi Vitamins usually have everything you need. No need to take anything else. A balance diet, exercise and a good night sleep takes care of everything else.

Research has shown that taking a daily vitamin is indeed good for your health. Our food has been depleted of the nutrients and a good quality daily vitamin helps you get more than food alone. Just make sure to buy a good quality vitamin, not the crap at Wal-mart. Go to Whole foods or a store like it and plan on spending about $20-40 a month. It is worth the extra money to get good vitamins, otherwise you are sending your money down the toilet, literally.

My opinion is that you should only take vitamin supplements if you have a vitamin deficiency. The most common deficiency is folic acid which helps with absorbsion of iron.
Taking a vitamin when you have sufficient in the body already is a waste of time and can sometimes be harmful. You can overdose on vitamins.

Vitamin tablets can and do supplement the level of vitamins in the body. The important thing is that in most cases they aren't necessary, most people get a more than adequate supply from any relatively healthy diet.

this may surprise you, but most multivitamin pills pass straight thru your body without even dissolving, let alone doing you any good. If you want to support your health by supplementing your diet, us a liquid vitamin supplement that is 100% bioavailable. Personally, I use LifeForce liquid vitamins, you can find them online thru Google if you are interested.
