A better idea is to buy it (and have it sent) to you from a USA based site. Camera prices in the UK are insane.
I live in Holland and when I ordered a $1200 lens from the USA, I saved about $500. Prices in the UK are even worse!
The best camera stores in the USA are:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com
http://www.ritzcamera.com
http://www.beachcamera.com
If you compare prices at these 3 sites, you're practically guaranteed to find the best price there is, anywhere. These stores are also 100% reliable.
The only problem I can think of, is that they might not accept your friend's UK issued credit card. If that happens, perhaps you can find some way around the problem (for example, have him/her send you cash by Western Union and put the camera on your own credit card.)

Why don't you just buy one locally? You'll get better support with a local purchase.
