Well, I am not a believer in petitionary prayer, but I do hope your friend is well-prepared and proves to be the best candidate.
As I believe "the divine" can be found both outside and within ourselves, I favor two methods.
I like to spend time outside, especially on a moonlit night, connecting with the big, beautiful earth around me and thinking about what I can do to make it a better place.
And I like to spend time inside, meditating quietly on my faults and thinking about what I can do to make myself a better person.

I'll pray with all my might!
As for my favorite method of connecting with the divine; How about drinking spirits?

A heartfelt prayer (God Help Me!) is the most direct and effective connection to the divine.

1) You popped up just in time, because the best results always come for me when I ask blessings for others! I need a job, too!
2) I ask Him what He wants to do, and try to get to know Him better,. so I'll know how to "fit in" with His best plan, so I don't ask for some stupid thing and get a "yes" and wish I hadn't! God bless you and your friend with the very best blessings He's longing to give!

Prayer works to those who believe!
Who does your friend believe in? If He believes in God, creator of all things; God who sent His son Jesus for the salvation of the world, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob/Israel; If he believes in this God tell him to pray to Him, tell him he has a personal "hot line" and God would love to hear from him! If he is obedient to God and if it is in God's Will, he will have what he asks for in Jesus name! But......
If this is not his God, let him pray to who he calls god.
