I know about it .... It's quite fascinating that one would do that to their own self . For those who don't know what were talking about below is a website on " skin removal " or " scarification " ... please be advised that this site is quite disturbing .

RE:
body carving?
I recently saw a picture of someone that had actually had a tattoo carved into their skin. Does anyone know what this is called. I am curious about this now. Would never consider it ahhaa I am not much into serious pain.

If it is 'carving' it is called "Scarification" which usually involves scalpels, tattooing with no ink (Tattoo machine scarification)..etc, many different way..

There is also Branding, a form of scarification, which usually involves burning or freezing, or other ways...

So yes, I coudl have only put 'Scarification', but I thought I'd differentiate the styles..
For anything body modification(because there is MUCH more than piercings and tattoos) visit http://www.bmezine.com It is a GREAT resource.
You have a tattoo, but it's mutilation!!? That makes no sense. Some people like better becaue their own body makes the art, the artist cuts, and the body makes the affect. I can see the beauty in that... Scarification is a body art, just like tattooing is. It is just a diferent form.
I won't even respond more than this response here to you narrow minded ignorants. Don't worry about other people's bodies, you say such things because you are ignorant, and know nothing about this. because you are ignorant, you hate misunderstanding and ill percieve thinking about it. I have learned this from life, people hate or fear what they do not understand... Educate yourself, or shut up. Correct me if I am wrong..are you professionals? Do you have any? You have no right to say what you do.. Worry about your own damn self, anyway..

If its that email going around with the bamboo design cut out of the girls back, I thought the end result looked really cool, but the picture of those skin chunks was enough for me to say no. I applaud anyone who could get through that, it's a lot more hard core than the girly girls who get a tattoo for the sake of getting one. I love tattoos, but I think scarification is too extreme for me.

branding- sometimes a similar machine is used like in tattooing, but it is heated up and it takes away layers of skin by burning. Personally, I think it looks really nice, although it takes awhile to heal, and the results are not guarenteed. scalpaling- you literly take a scapal and cut away parts of the skin into a design. I also think this looks nice, but it takes almost a year to fully heal. Can you imagine the first shower after that? Ouch. I have considered getting some form of branding, but small..

if it's done by a professional, then it is a scarification. NOT SELF-MUTILATION. it's a way to tattoo yourself with scars instead of ink. i personally don't like it, but other people do.

Sickness w/ underlying mental issues: extreme self-mutilation. emotional instability, masochistic underpinnings...
Saw a picture of it as well and was HORRIFIED by the flesh pieces, blood, and gaping wounds in the person's back!
