A call to action is something you are supposed to put in an ad, mailing, booth, wbe site, etc.

"Call this toll free number now"

"Contact us for your free video"

"Write your Congressman today"

"Return this card for a free evaluation"

"Contact your local rep now"

etc.

Think about the media being used and in what situation the viewer is going to see it. With that in mind the call to action will be tailored to increase the chance of a response. E.g. promotional material in a Supermarket communicating a promotion to increase immediate sales, or a mouse mat advertising a companies website to increase hits.

You have to implement the call of action into your communications, such as "Try it Now!", "Make it part of your xmas". or like Cilt Bang using the penny test to see if it actually works.
