I watched Sesame Street, shows that teaches English, read a lot of children's books, keep a diary in English(even if you don't know how to say things or explain. Use your dictionary!) Watch movies in English even though you don't understand (get used to listening and catch some words), try to memorize songs, get yourself in a situation where you HAVE TO speak English... etc.
These are some of the things that I did to learn English. Now I can speak English and speak to my children in English. Don't worry about your grammar! How did you learn to speak your own language? Your parents talked to you and you listened! Your parents didn't tell you if your grammar was wrong, did they? Get used to listening! That's the first step. Don't be afraid to say "I don't understand". Don't say "Yes" to things or questions you didn't understand. Let the people repeat what they're saying. Good luck and have fun learning!

There are some people I have a hard time understanding too. (That's why I dropped out of calculus!) Can you possibly switch to a different teacher? Speak to the prinipal, or the dean.

You should participate during your lessons in order to improve your pronunciation.
Grammar is also very interesting as it helps you to write coherently and try to read books to stimulate your vocabulary.
It needs an effort and patience!
Good luck!
