I went out and bought a bunch of board games to spend time with my child. He is 6yrs old, and I don't think I should let him win on purpose just to make him happy. So when I win he gets really mad, and he starts swearing at me :(... This makes me feel terrible.

it's hard for a child to lose - but they have to realize that if you are going to be a winner you have to take the good and bad. he'll never have good sportsmanship if he doesn't learn this early on and he may even have trouble keeping friends because of this...so, i agree with you on not letting him win on purpose. i would show him how to win the game, by showing examples of doing this or that, saying wouldn't you rather do this move and let him learn that way. what i don't understand is the swearing, he is only 6 years old - you should be teaching him swearing is wrong and each time he swears, you stop the game, and tell him that's not acceptable talk in your home, and when he learns to stop this, you'll play again. do not give him the opportunity to disrespect you in that manner. good luck.

My daughter does the same. Just tell him that he has to play fair and that sometimes other people might win the game. I would also go easy every once in a while and let him try to win a game or two ;)

My son does the same and he is six too. I think they need to know that they can't always win. Otherwise when the grow up they will find it very hard to accept when things don't go their way. Try and look on the funny side of it. I do find it quite amusing when my boy does his lolly when he loses.

Let him win once in awhile to boost his self esteem but also teach him to be a good loser. When I was little and we played board games we used to have to shake the winner's hand and say "congratulations champ." But also teach to be a gracious winner as well.

First off wash his mouth with soap!!! Second off find a way to teach him that you dont have to win at everything just as long as you put in an effort to win.

Beat that butt. You don't talk to your parents like that and he can't get his way all the time. So get him ready to win and lose some.
