My family has been looking for a puppy as well. I would recommend looking at the following web page for information about particular breeds:
http://us.iams.com/iams/en_US/jsp/IAMS_Page.jsp?pageID=DBG&paidkw&source=ps06
This web site can help you choose the right puppy for your lifestyle etc.
http://us.iams.com/iams/en_US/jsp/IAMS_Page.jsp?pageID=DBS
It helped us look at breeds that we would not have considered, and to avoid ones that would not be right for our lifestyle. Like people, puppies come in all sorts of temperments, even in the same breed.
Teddy Bear Yorkies are just another type of Yorkshire Terrier: the Iams site can give you more information about them. Their heads resemble teddy bears thus their name. My neighbor had several. They can be hard to housebreak. (She has a 1 year old Yorkie who still isn't housebroken)
Since choosing a puppy is a long commitment (terriers can live 15 years) choosing the one that is just right for your family should be done with caution and care.
Good luck!!

Go to the website www.puppydogweb.com They have everything you could want to know about every breed you can think of. Also a listing of breeders. If you don't care about papers etc, decide what breeds you like and go to a shelter. They should be able to help you find a mixed breed that has some or all of the breeds you like. There are breeds you should definitely stay away from if you are a first time dog owner.

Ive never heard of "Teddy Bear" Yorkies but Yorkies in general are very small dogs. Exactly how small are you talking about? Some good ones would be Chihuahua, Maltese, miniature Dashchunds, miniature Poodles, and Shihtzus. Any of hte terriers are going to be little more yappy and neurotic, the poodles are generally very intelligent, and maltese and shihtzus are just sweet dogs. There are also a lot of cross breeds available these days that often combine the best of each breed; yorki-poos, malti-poos, ok, pretty much everything else mixed with poodles. It makes them shed less and a little smarter. Good luck in your hunt!

I don't know anything about Yorkies. I have a Chihauhau and full grown he is 7-8 pounds. You'd think something so little wouldn't do much, but he loves to walk and even run. I can take him out for an hour at a time and he doesn't get tired. Inside the house he is not hyper and does not yip and bark at everything (though that came with a little bit of training) and we trained him to go in a litter box so we don't have to worry about letting him out.

There are plenty of breeds that would fit into what you are looking for here. If you do a search on the net, there are quizzes you can take and put in things you are specifically wanting of a dog and it will bring up suggestions for breeds that would potentially be good for you. This is based on things such as your activity level, amount of time you have for the dog each day, amount of grooming you are willing to do, etc.
I also agree with the idea of going to the shelter, as they usually do have very cute little dogs and a worker there can help match you with one that will fit your lifestyle!
Good Luck!

Teddy Bear pups are a cross-breed. Depending on the breeder, they can be a cross between a yorkie and a cocker spaniel, or a yorkie and a poodle. Teddy Bears aren't a real breed - they are a "designer mutt".
Here's a link to a breeder, if you are interested.

No such thing
Teddy Bear is a hair cut that groomers can give it is not a breed type
Terriers are not good dogs for new owners..
A Shih Tzu would be better
and an adult would be the best thing... go to your local shelter and get one already housetrained

I tell a lot of people this, and I'm going to say it again...
Go to your local shelter and you'll be surprised how many "cute tiny puppies" that you can take for walks are there and desperate for you to love them.
Mutts, in my experience, are fantastic dogs. The shelter volunteers/employees can help you decide which puppy or dog is right for you based on everything that is important to you as a potential dog owner. Or, usually what happens to me is a dog picks me out.
