What you need to look up is the Kosher Laws on dietary requirement.
Do not mix milk and meat (from thou shalt not cook the child in the mothers milk)
Parve (vegetable in origin this includes wheat etc) can be eaten with either milk or meat.
You must wait several hours between eating meat or milk before consuming the opposite product typically 6 hour in Arabic countries 4 in hours in European.
You may only eat of animals with a cloven hoof,
Crustaceans cannot be eaten.
Birds that sit on a wire with 2 toes either side may not be eaten (birds of prey)
Only one type of locust can be eaten though I don't know which one.
You may not eat of leaven products during passover (yeast products)

I asked this question of one of my Jewish physician friends and this is what she told me:
Many of the dietary restrictions that Kosher Jews observe were initially for health reasons. For instance, not mixing dairy and meat would reduce the chances that part of the meal would spoil or be tainted in ancient (before refrigeration) times. Also, it was beleived that meat of animals that ate other animals or unclean animals or bottom feeders such as pigs or lobster, was not healthy or 'clean'. This had something to do with why these foods were prohibited.
There is also a restriction on what part of an animal with hooves (or maybe cloven hooves, I am not sure about this) can be eaten.
Additionally, for meat to be Kosher it must be raised in a certain way (which I am not familiar with all the details of) and the animal must be humanely killed. I wish I could tell you more about this, but I was told that I goes back to something in the scriptures about beast being put on earth to serve man and so man must be kind to beast.
Good luck!

Ther is no such thing as a standard set of Jewish beliefs in this modern world. And in any case, observance of the old laws has no place in the Christian life. Forget about them. We live by grace, not by laws. The best case scenario is that of your boyfriend someday becoming a Christian. Everyone, including our Jewish brethren, must declare their faith in Jesus to be saved. Nothing less will do. And a Christian girl adopting Jewish practices only muddies the waters.
