We are travelling to Australia and want to know whether our Switch / Maestro cards are useable over in Australia. We haven't got visa cards and don't want them, but want to know if Switch and Maestro can be used to withdraw from cashpoints like you can in Spain and other foreign countries?

If the card has a Cirrus logo on the back then you'll be able to find a suitable cash point in Oz - but it's like going to the cashpoint in the UK, not all cash points operate on the same system so you might have to look around.

Yep if the mchine has the maestro/cirrus logo on it. But check with your bank before you travel as you will most probably be charged each time you withdraw cash.

Yep, if it has the sign up for your card. I found lots of them that did in Auss, and this was back in 2002. Watch out for the charges though, some are OK other are not! Good luck and have a great time!

you can but some machine wont accept it and also we had a problem with some of the machine converting the money wrong (ie showing the amount in dollars that you actually have in pounds and it gets very confusing) You will also have to look out for charges that there machines might make and charges that your bank will use.

yes you can, can also use them in India and Vietnam, so I can assure you Australia will ot be a problem. If you bank with barclays try their websites as they have partner banks who charge a lower fee for using their machines oerseas
