There is no "proper" length of time.
Its all a matter of social stigma and rhetoric...
Some people will do it for the length of their favourite song.... but then songs can vary from a minute and a half through to half an hour sometimes....
I personally keep it short and sweet.... but thats just my preference.

You brush them until you feel like they are clean. Important thing is to NOT use a toothbrush that is too stiff (hard) or you can damage the enamel on your teeth. Grooves at the gum line can result in periodontal damage and subsequent dental work being required to repair the damage. Later on in years (as this wear is cumulative and not easily detected until its too late) you may think back to this time and say, "Wish I'd have heeded the advice that Old Guy gave me about brushing my teeth."
Have a great day and God Bless you.

The recommended amount of time to brush is at least two (2) minutes. As long as you are focusing on doing it correctly you shouldnt have a problem. The goal is to remove as much plaque (the soft deposit stuck to your teeth) as possible. You want to use a soft bristle brush and dont scrub!! Also, dont forget to floss!! :)

There is no proper length of time.... until you get them clean. Some electric toothbrushes have a two minute timer. I'm a dental hygienist... we tell our patients at least two minutes. It's longer than you think! And don't forget to floss!!!
Remember to pack your brush, floss and travel size toothpaste when you travel too.
Happy travels.... and brushing!

I've an electric toothbrush that's timed for two minutes and the orthodontist gave my daughter a two minute egg timer to use as a guide for brushing with braces. From these two sources, my guess is two minutes is probably the dentist-recommended length.
