I have seen a particular person on this forum who at first said they were a decided atheist, now recently an agnostic, who is always using the phrase,"I believe our soul will PASS OVER at death". When I asked, where does an atheist/agnostics soul pass over to, and who ensures it passes over safely?....I was never given an answer. Doesn't their repeated statement go against atheist/agnostic beliefs? ....Trying to understand.....

You don't need to believe in a god to believe in an afterlife, nor do you need to believe in a god to believe you have a soul. The beauty of atheism/agnosticism is that everyone thinks for themselves and has their own ideas about things. It doesn't matter if it's the "Truth" or not.

There is not one unified set of beliefs that atheists have. I think it is safe to say that we all think the Bible is a collection of myths, and that the God in the Bible is no more believable than other mythical gods like Zeus and Poseidon. Beyond that, I am sure there is a pretty wide range of beliefs. I personally think that the concept of an immortal soul that survives after death of the body is just wishful thinking. I know many atheists who agree hold the same belief. But I am not surprised when I hear an atheist claim that they believe that there may be some kind of "philotic core" or "aiua".

Most people who avow Atheistic or Agnostic beliefs have actually conducted a real search for answers to their questions and found little that made sense to them. However some have found some parts to make sense to them. Just as there are many different beliefs in Christianity there are many differing opinions in atheism. Let's face it no one really has an answer we can debate till well forever and still wont know.

Seems like you would need to talk to that individual.

Just because a person does not believe in god, does not mean they believe there is nothing but blackness at death. Reincarnation is one possible agnostic/atheist belief of what happens at death.

Atheists only believe that there is no god. Anything else is their own personal beliefs. One can believe in a soul or in the afterlife or in ghosts or reincartation... as long as he does not believe in god, he is still an atheist.

Personally I don't believe in a soul. I believe that I am who I am because of the neuroconnections in my brain. So i cannot exist without my body.

Atheists/agnostics have no written doctrine to adhere to. So people's viewpoints are complex and many times contradictory. I believe human spirits pass on to another plane of existence at death. Not heaven. Why is that difficult to comprehend?

Sounds like he/she is more of an agnostic.
Atheists don't have any belief in an after life.
They just believe that they will die and be put in the ground and that is it.

most of us at some time in our lives struggle to find meaning and in a mysterious way this often leads to questions of a spiritual nature,I say mysterious because during this searching and struggling phase we do not understand what is reality.
I can relate to those going thru this experience as I too was pretty confused before I found the truth in Jesus, perhaps we can be a little too hard on others and not so understanding.
peace.
