Anybody know if Canon or some other brand makes an attachment for my lenses that converts them to wide angle lenses. Or am I better off just buying a wider angled lens?

There are good tele convertrers, and there are cheezy fish eye add-ons, but there are no serious wide angle converters.
If you're looking for a super wide angle, the options are all $500 and up, and you get what you pay for:
Canon 10-22mm, best of the lot
Sigma 12-24mm, second best
and then there's the Sigma 10-20mm/ Tokina 12-24mm/ Tamron 11-18mm.
The regular zooms start at 17mm.
