I am not afraid to die because it is something that happens to us all. I wouldn't worry too much over it because in most cases we are very old when it happens and it happens fast enough that we are not in a lot of pain. I would worry if I knew I only had x amount of time to live.

Yes, people often fear they are going to die from a panic attack and the more they think this the worse the panic attack becomes.

If you have a panic attack you need to be reassured that it will not kill you and it is possible to shorten it or avoid it.

The way you do this is when you first start to feel panicky sit or lie somewhere quietlly and take three deep beaths long and slow. Let the air come out slowly and focus on this and nothing else. Know that this is the beginning to your panic attack ending.

Focus on your body parts, starting with your toes, let them go completely limp, focus on this only, then move to the next body part and so on all the way up to your head. Keep really focused. The panic will NOT harm you.

If you begin hyperventilating breathing fast, or get pins and needles, take a PAPER bag and breathe in and out slowly into it this will balance your blood gases and help you over the breathing, do this for around 10 breaths then STOP. Take some normal breaths in between, if you're still hyperventilating take a nother 10 breaths....these don't have to be too deep. All the while focusing on relaxing your body and telling yourself you CANNOT come to any harm.

The panic attack will pass. Remember it is impossible to panic when your body is very relaxed!
Hope this helps.

I used to have them almost daily. A little more than a year ago I found a program put out by the Midwest Center for Anxiety and Depression. It takles about 11 weeks and it changed my life. I have not had a panic attack since I finished the program. I learned how to control the obsessive thoughts that lead to anxiety. Believe me, I was very skeptical. I tried all kinds of therapy and pills, but theyu didn't do anything really except mask the feelings.

I used to have them every day! Now I see a pschiatrist every 3 monthes & am on different medications, but I have bipolar & anxiety disorder and my major panic attacks have totally lessoned! Local mental health departments have sliding scale payments if you are on a limited budget & need to talk to a professional. Good luck & God bless!

You need to find a support group for anxiety sufferers. You recover better there than here.
