Unfortunately i can't be with my fiance for the holidays. He's at home in the United States and i'm in Germany for a few months. Since we can't celebrate christmas together i wanted to give him a really nice present i can send him in a package.
We are getting married in Feburary 2007.
I keep asking him want he wants but he can't think of anything. He keeps saying he just wants me to be home but we both know that's not possible.
So i need some help with a thoughtful christmas present for him!
What do you guys think?!

My friends wife, before they were married, made him a calender one year for Christmas. She put pictures of them together or of other family members for the top part. The bottom part was just like a regular calender except she had marked "important" dates on there like birthdays, anniversaries, first kiss anniversaries, future wedding date, birthdays of family members. It was really cute and really thoughtful. You can usually buy a kit at walmart....not sure they have those over in Germany...lol. but any kind of paper would work. It's a project that I think I might do this year!
Good Luck! Congrats on the wedding! I'm getting married on the 18th of this month......Good Luck to you!

Okay, this may sound really hokey, but it's sweet and costs next to nothing if you have some time and a computer.
When I wanted to give my fiance something special and unique I made a book, listing many of the reasons why I loved him. It ranged from "Because you took me camping" to "the way you kiss the back of my neck" to simply "you make me feel safe & loved". It's a wonderful way to throw in good memories that you have with him, and let him know that you notice the little things that he does. If he's a sentementalist he'll like it. If he loves you he'll like it regardless. Throw in some stuff that is relevent to you and your relationship (pictures, some stuff you found in germany that you like, perhaps chocolate or something). Be creative! When you're done with the book just get some ribbon, punch some holes in the top or side of each little page and thread the ribbon through for easy 'binding'.
Anyways, just an idea. Good luck and I hope you have a wonderful wedding!!

Give him something significant of Germany that will through the years remind you both of this time. A German punch bowl to make egg nog or Christmas punch in every year after you marry - you can also use the punchbowl at the wedding or rehearsal dinner. You can also may May Wine punch with the German May wine in the Spring. A punch bowl is a fun and celebratory gift. You could include punch recipes and tell him you will be home soon to celebrate.
A German watch, a nice German sweater or jacket. The best gift might be a Cuckoo Cuckoo Clock if you can afford to send that sort of gift.

I would find a way even if it was just for 1 day to go home just to see him.
OR
I would send him a pc camera so that you can talk to him directly and see each other, which is way better than talking on the phone.
Then I would probably give him a little show if front of the camera. Like send him a date card saying "Sit in front of the camera at this time and make sure no one is around. Then he will be plesantly surprised when he gets a peep show on the camera.
But thats just what I would do.

My husband and I have spent a total of seven years in Germany. The first time we were there, we heard a story of a Wedding Cup. We were POOR at the time, but the second time around, I bought one for our 10th anniversary. It meant a lot to us, the story follows. I provided a link, but you should buy one locally, of course!
(Added later...)
Another idea would be to visit a local wine cellar and buy a bottle of wine commerating the year you met, or the year of his birth, etc. Most vineyards sell locally and in Heidelberg they will even put a custom label on the bottle for you. You may hand carry something like three litres of alcohol when you return to the States, check with the customs department on the details.)
===================================
Centuries ago, in old Nuernberg, the nobel mistress Kunigunde fell in love with a young and ambitious goldsmith. Although Kunigunde's wealthy father (a powerful nobleman) did not approve of this pair, it was clear that she only wanted the goldsmith to be her husband as she refused many titled and rich suitors who asked for her hand in marriage.
Her father became so enraged that he had the young goldsmith thrown into the darkest dungeon. Not even his daughter's bitter tears would change her father's mind.
To her father's dismay, imprisoning the young man did not end his daughter's love for the goldsmith. Instead, he could only watch as his daughter grew paler and paler as a result of the separation from her true love.
The wealthy nobleman reluctantly made the following proposal: He told his daughter, "If your goldsmith can make a chalice from which two people can drink at the same time without spilling one single drop, I will free him and you shall become his bride".
Of course he was certain nobody could perform such a task...
Inspired by love and with skillful hands, the young goldsmith created a masterpiece. He sculpted a girl with a smile as beautiful as his own true love's. Her skirt was hollowed to serve as a cup. Her raised arms held a bucket that swivels so that it could be filled and then swung towards a second drinker.
The challenge was met. The goldsmith and the nobleman's daughter joined hands in marriage and with the bridal cup set forth a romantic and memorable tradition as charming today as it was originally hundreds of years ago.
To this day and to many couples the chalice remains a symbol.
Love, faithfulness and good luck await the couple who drink from this cup.

OK not sure but here's my opinion......but it's very thoughtful.
The Benedictine abbey Weihenstephan Germany (established in 725) is reputedly the oldest existing brewery in the world (brewing since 1040). Ship him a 6'er and give him the background and he'll be telling his friend how cool and thoughtful you are.
PS. Don't get him something all sentimental......it's a guarantee that it's means more to you than him.....and that's not in the Christmas spirit.
Oh yeah...you can buy it somewhere over there and have them pack it and ship it and it would be sweet....OR if you wanna do it the slacker way go to: http://internationalbeershop.com.au/products.asp?product_id=320

MOST guys don't really care about gifts as much as women do. Try to think of something meaningful to him. Perhaps something that can be related to the wedding. If he likes sports, get him tickets a game in his fave sport. Send him romantic IOU's for personal, sensual massages (or any other favors he would like)to be given by you. Maybe something he would like for the home that you will be living in.

Find him something indicative of the culture you are currently in. We had a German exchange student and he sends us cool German things at Christmas and our birthdays. I'm sure you can find something cheesy that says "I Love You" in German on it, if that's the kind of thing you're into. You could also find something that says "Merry Christmas" in German. And send a love letter in with it. Good luck!
