I hate eating them because they're bitter, but I've been put on a diet by my doctor and I have to start eating them. Is there no substitute?

Broiled Grapefruit

1 lrg Grapefruit, halved
2 tsp Margarine, softened
2 tbl Sugar
1/2 tsp Ground cinnamon

Cut membrane out of the center of each grapefruit half. Cut around each section so it will be easy to spoon out when eating. Place 1 teaspoons margarine in the center of each half. Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over each half. Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over each. Broil until butter is melted and sugar is bubbly. Serve immediately.

I don't have a solution to make them taste better... but could you drink grapefruit juice instead? No sugar just the juice? It's quicker and easier to handle.

Cheer up, at least your doctor is not telling you to drink a quart of vinegar. Which also helps the metabolism in digesting food. Gosh, can't u just reduce your red meats and eat more raw/unprocessed fruits and vegetables?
Good luck

Either buy a ripe grapefruit or after buying a green one, store in a paper bag at room temperature for a few days. It will ripe and be almost sweet when you eat it. Enjoy!

Soak half the grapefruit in vodka for an hour.

It doesn't taste any better, but you won't really care.

Sounds like your diet went sour already.
Sugar will spike your glycymic index - I'd skip the sweet stuff.

I love them plain. I peel them, separate the segments and remove the membrane.I eat just the pulp! It is delicious, but time-consuming.
