Guys like to flirt and get your attention but they don't want to date. They want to be mysterious and kind of romantic but they get scared if somebody likes them. It is immature. There should be open communication so there is no confusion and friendships resolved. Can you really be friends with a guy who has done this? I have had to it done to me recently and trying to get passed it but he frustrates me.

Women do this too. So try to think why women will do this.

This has happen to me and I have done this too to someone. When the lady ask me out, I was just suprised and can't say yes to it and I am not even flirting with her, just hanging out with a group. The awkwardness was there and for a few meeting but as you have said, the more you talk to each other, the more it will be resolved, as if nothing happens. But on the other person where I ask her out and she was shocked.. the aftermath was not good, just like yours.. I think it boils down to each person's personality, if he or she have the experience and maturity to resolve this kind of thing. It needs two to resolve this.

My last tip for you.. if one say no to your date invitation, it's very likely he or she is not that in to you.. or not yet.

There has to something in common to start with. School, a job, the movies, something simple I guess. There must be a way to communicate, your ideas, desires, loves and likes.
You have to be able to really see each other, for your values, your worth you could say so, you could talk.
