go to your doctor, surely people are not afraid of doctors especially if, and this is my personal favourite, they have just had babies or are pregnant?

IN response to many informed answers my partner has just had a baby and between health visits midwives not to mention the 30 to 40 visits to hospitals and the like how can you not run into someone better qualified to give advice. plus some people have symptons for 2-3 weeks (serious by the sounds of it) and they prefare to ask on this site, i just don't get it. last week one person asked about a lump in their breast c'mon people we are not talking about the stoneage. this is a person competent enough to use a pc to ask the question in the first place?????

What one person finds embarrassing another person might not, so those questions that you consider not to be embarrassing may be very embarrassing for the asker. So they post a question here rather than visit their GP.
Sometimes being friendly with your GP is a stumbling block when it comes to asking personal questions and some people would prefer to speak to a locum doctor whom they have never met before.
EDIT I think I have completely the wrong end of the stick here. Thinking about my reply. I think that some of the medical questions asked on here are deliberately gross so as to shock us and not even worthy of a reply.
And as for your comments about your favourite questions about pregnancy and women who have just given birth. You have no idea my friend no idea what you are going on about....and it's just sheer ignorance for you to make comment.
Hi there again if you don't mind me saying, if you expect the right type of answers would it be fair to say that you need to tell us the whole story before you post your question? That way you will get answers that are worth the paper they are typed on.
Good news about the wee one though. Congratulations.
No 10 points for me then!

To be honest it is a combination of reasons some may just need a quick reasurance, some may be to embarrased to go to doctors or have to pay and cant afford it. Some may not be able to get an appointment for over a week our health service is a bit bad and unless dying very hard to get an appointment or get passed receptionist to get one (experience of that).
Some know the answer but want a second third or 20th opinion lets face it, it would cost an arm and a leg to get that sort of service any where.

I partially agree with you. Some people come up with puzzling symptoms that it can be dangerous to ignore and rely on the answers community. I feel the same about NHS direct and for any medical advice on the net.
However, some have trivial and common symptoms that can be treated by a visit to the chemist like athlete foot, thrush etc

don't know where you live but you need to make an appointment with a doctor at least three weeks in advance where i live!!
so some times it's nice to get some feed back from somebody who has personal experience of what it is that you maybe going through. if more people did this and all the stupid idiots refrained from answering it would save the over worked doctors a lot of time

do you have the time to go to the doctor? wanna wait in a room with coughing old ladies for hours? ring up for an appointment and get one a week later?
or would you rather ask the world from the comfort of your home?

I'd be embarrassed to go to the doctor if he made me pregnant. At least if you ask a medical question here, you're unlikely to find yourself having a baby. (Joke)

I believe it is the psychological need for reassurance from most since they already know the answer) but for a smaller number it is genuine lack of any information or understanding. Amazing, but true.

Your partial 'existence adventure resume' is amazing. it particularly is an affidavit to behold. yet why did solutions droop your account? Did you inject humor into certainly one of your solutions? in case you probably did, possibly it grew to become into no longer regularly occurring as you meant. If i presumed you have been being dealt with unfairly, I, too, could help your protest. yet with-out that tips, your history resume skill no longer something.

Would you prefer questions that have embarassing answers?
Some drs don't want to take time with their patients to answer questions, esp. just general information, so this is at least a place to ask!
But I would agree, serious questions need professional answers.
